If you like beautiful artwork, pretty guys, comedy, action & bloodshed. Latch on to this series like a rabid dog. The artwork is completely gorgeous - the centerfolds & covers blow me away every time.
Along with glorious eye candy, the story & content is very interesting. It goes over things like caste systems, mental illness, brutality, sexuality & much more. This is also one of the first series I've read where male characters who are very feminine are actual total bad asses. They not only have strength & skill in things such as fighting - but also are able to control people emotionally to
...
handle a situation or get what they want. It's a nice combination of comedy, human darkness, gore, and action. It sets up a charade of what you think is going to happen, then it's something you never even expected, or it even twists further the lie.
It's very entertaining & while it does have a story line, it breaks off into side stories (that aren't fillers, amen hallelujah), which give you a feel of the characters backgrounds, emotions & traits. That being said, I'm not wanting to murder myself over a never ending story that draws out until i'm 85 & close to death. Each chapter combines to become this good ol' ball of awesome (aka a captivating complex story).
Regardless of gender, this manga provides a lil bit of everything for people to enjoy. Definitely worth a read!

I started this series a few years ago, but never got past the first volume. After reading something about how it was one of the "best BL titles" out there, I decided to pick it up again and give it a read. I've read 6 volumes of the series so far, so I feel comfortable giving my opinion on it.
Pros
-Graphic sex scenes
-Good looking characters
-Some humor
-Art (apart from the occasional yaoi hands) (7)
Cons
-Story is pretty bland (5)
Is action but is more like Asami saving Takaba 90% of the time from situations he gets himself into. While I really enjoy action yaoi, my big beef
...
with this series is that the action part has pretty much no backing plot. It's just a bunch of almost random gangster scenes, etc. I feel like if it was more fleshed out, then I'd like it a lot more, but the lack of background makes it just fairly boring for me.
-Character development. (6)
While the series at least gives a bit of a feel for the characters and what their beliefs and goals are, like the story, it's not very fleshed out. 6 volumes in I would have liked to have a bit of a background of how the characters got to where they are today, or at least something more than the readers just knowing Takaba likes photography. Right off the bat it was one of those stories where guy 1 wants guy 2, guy 2 doesn't want him but always ends up banging him while still "hating" him and playing hard to get. I just wish there was more development between the two of them.
-Sex scenes everywhere
This is half an awesome thing and half a "ugh again" thing. Being a yaoi reader I obviously enjoy sex scenes, but there are so many in this series it's almost boring. There is no real build up, just everyone and their mother (father??) trying to rape Takaba because he is cute & has a mystery relationship with Asami.
Overall I think i'm being a bit harsh on this series, since a) it is praised so much and b) i'm a seasoned 23 year old yaoi reader. I think if I was 16-18 and read this I would have thought this series was amazing, but now after reading hundreds of yaoi series, this series is almost forgettable apart from the sex scenes.
The series is worth reading I think in terms of it's yaoi scenes, but stay away from this if you are looking for realistic situations & cute fluff, etc and hate rape. I plan to keep reading this series to see if it develops at all, in which I will alter my review. This series isn't bad, but I also wouldn't say it's that great either.

I fell in love with the other two OVA's that were related to this series, and was excited to watch this one. The art style was unique like the rest of the OVA's, but this probably was my least favorite of the 3. The story is pretty cute (though a tad bit too cheesy for my liking), and the main characters in this have a lot of deep emotions that people can easily relate to (especially if you deal with being socially anxious). I think this OVA shared some great insight, even if I felt that the story was a bit rushed and at times
...
awkward.

I've played both of the DMMD games, and the game series alone is fabulous. I stopped watching the anime mid-way because I didn't want my love of the games to be soiled by an anime adaption that basically gave an episode per character and stripped them down of most of their characteristics. The animation was sometimes laughably bad, but hey what do you expect. I've mainly given up on BL game anime adaptions (Togainu no Chi, and now this), since I feel like they never have the budget they really deserve to actually make it good. If you're new to DMMD and like the general
...
gist of it, I'd highly recommend you play the games (though beware they are quite graphic, especially compared to this anime). I think the only reason I gave this series a "decent" rating was that I actually knew what was going on since I played the first game before watching the series. Otherwise i'd be so clueless.

Another yaoi manga with a plot that could be something awesome, but ends up ending horribly. This manga started out pretty interesting, but overall was ruined by it's sudden rushed, half assed ending. I believe that if this manga was maybe fleshed out more and longer than it could have been something enjoyable, but in 2 volumes it ended up failing. The series spends probably 90% of it investigating and building up the reader for this big secret society thing. In the end, it gives a few page explanation (if you want to even call it that) which makes little to no sense, and then
...
goes off into some happily ever after thing. Another gripe of mine, is that it draws attention to there being two twins in the story, but the twin Gabby is more like a side character. He is at the school, and I'd assume he'd be sharing the same pain as his brother, so it makes no sense why he pops into the story line once in a blue moon. Read this only if you're a masochist who wants to put yourself through a painfully horrible plot.

I would rate this 6.5 if I could. I've read a lot of stuff by this artist, and this has to have been my least favorite of her work so far. It has a pretty interesting theme, but I think it's pretty rushed through. There was definitely some twists, but I felt it was lacking a bit in terms of content and pace (though I guess that's hard to do in 3 volumes). Beautiful art like always though. But like the other review stated I probably wouldn't reread again, I just wasn't really captured like I am with the rest of her works. I think
...
the first volume really had the reader interested, but then it started to sort of dwindle down for me by mid 2nd book I think. I almost feel like there was too much that was going on that was jam packed in 3 volumes that made me iffy about it.

I thought this manga was very well written and had some great characters. I wish it was a bit longer, but I think I am still fairly pleased with how it ended. I highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for yaoi with more of a story & content (and not just sex scenes). I was also pleased that the characters were more realistic and not easily divided between that "uke & semi" thing that seems to be big in yaoi. Each character had their own personality, which added to the story. I feel that the book also had a lot of powerful themes.
...
Like heartbreak, loss, and the ability to accept what other people may not approve of. The art is also great!

I originally watched this since I really find yokai interesting & thought this would be a cute movie from what i gathered from the bio of it. While it was a fairly cute movie it did have a very dark side to it.
It really exposed the nasty side of human beings in this film, to the point where it almost made me uncomfortable. I am very sensitive about the fair treatment of animals, so just as a warning to anyone like me, you may be bothered by a few scenes in this film. Apart from that it definitely had some funny & cute moments
...
that made me laugh. I think I was just blown away at how emotional and deep that the creators made this film. It was definitely a mixture of things I hadn't seen before. It also showed a very interesting evolution of characters in terms of maturity, etc.
It was also one of the longer anime films i've seen (over 2 hours), but I'm not sure if the extra length was really necessary. It did have some really beautiful scenery, but like the other reviewers said the animation wasn't all that great.
Overall I thought it was a fairly good movie, but I probably wouldn't watch it again. I just wish I looked more into the plot so I would have been prepared for the not so cute side of it (since i was under the impression it was some sweet ol' kids movie). It definitely was not up to the level of aesthetic & plot as some of the "classic" anime films out there, but still something refreshingly new.

I don't really know how to rate this, since I can't tell if the story was meant to be serious at all or if it was just an entire joke.
Story (5)
It was funny in some places, but the majority of it was just a bit too out there for me. So basically Jungle King is like the majority of yaoi on the market, with everyone magically being gay & wanting to bone every hot guy in the series. The story isn't realistic in the slightest, and has things like the main character randomly masturbating under a tree on a rescue mission in some jungle
...
in Africa. There are about a handful of rape scenes, the majority of them being out in the wild jungle. There is some old geezer in the story who seems to be madly in love with the main character & continuously stalks him throughout the jungle, watching him have sex through his binoculars. Later in the story they go to some snowy area, where jungle dude is still reppin' his animal skin loincloth, with a huge mass of vines draped over his shoulder. Things just keep getting weirder, with a guy in a bear suit jacking off the poor main character, and random bear fighting rings that jungle dude got forced into competing. Jungle dude & the main character cannot stop having sex, even when they are trying to escape from the crazy people they are running from. The whole plot & line of events is just crazy weird. I found the side story hilarious though, and enjoyed that more than the main story.
Art (7)
The art is pretty good. I like her style. It is a bit weird in places though. The sex scenes were pretty detailed, if that is what makes you happy in life.
Character(4.5)
I didn't really like the characters. They weren't horrible, but they just didn't leave any overall impression & just blended in with the rest of stuff I've read. Like the story, I liked the characters in the side story better.
Enjoyment (7)
This was enjoyable to read in a sense since it was just so weird, but that was pretty much it. I wouldn't want to read it again or own it. I was mainly just chuckling at how hilariously weird/bad it was.
Overall I'd rate this a 6 I guess. Since while it was run of the mill characters, the weirdness made it unique. I wouldn't go as far as to say I liked it at all, but the art wasn't bad & at least I got a good chuckle.

What can I say about this series. When I first started reading this series I thought it was amazing. It had interesting characters as well as theme, and made me laugh out loud on several occasions. The story was still doing great in my opinion, until the last 2 volumes of the manga (5 &6). The story took a turn and all of a sudden became really rushed like the author wanted to get done with the series ASAP. Random characters came out of no where, and became like important parts of the story, but the author gave little to no background on them. They
...
were just thrust into the plot to have some role which helped lead to the end of the series, but it was just kind of sudden for me. The ending was not what I had expected and while it gave the answer to some of the questions, most of the answers made you think "What the heck?". It just didn't make any sense at all to me. I don't know if it was because of me reading 1-4 a few months ago & then reading 5 & 6, or what. The ending also just made the whole thing sort of silly, and everything that happened sort of worthless effort.
Art: Beautiful! I like the outfits, and the art style. I also enjoy the fact that all the characters look pretty different, and aren't just the same face with a different hair style slapped on.
Character: I felt the author made the personalities of each beginning/main character pretty known, and you got a good feel of who they were and how they acted. (Not so much for the later characters though)
OVERALL, I'd give this series a 6.5. It would have been a 9 for me, if not for the last two volumes dragging it down from it's throne of glory.
