Synopsis
Amate Yuzuriha is a high-school student living peacefully in a space colony floating in outer space. When she meets a war refugee named Nyaan, Amate is drawn into the illegal mobile suit dueling sport known as Clan Battle.
Under the entry name "Machu," she throws herself into fierce battle day after day, piloting the GQuuuuuuX. Then an unidentified Gundam mobile suit pursued by both the space force and the police appears before her, along with its pilot, a boy named Shuji.

lol, sorry you went through that.
and doom 3 huh, that's a trip down memory lane for me, i vaguely remember my older brother playing it when i was like 6 or something and that it scared the shit outta me.

it's not problematic whatsoever, i just found it strange that you found it strange i guess, since i don't think my opinion here is that bizarre or anything like that.
mostly because i've seen a lot of negativity and critique surrounding the rebuilds online, as i said, and don't think their acclaim is as universal as you suggest, but as you mentioned, it has to do with the opinions one is used to, so maybe we just frequent different circles i suppose. and whether the changes were normal because of anno's feelings is besides the point, which was how those were received, when some better than others.
i also prefer the OG eva series, but i guess to a larger extent, since i don't strictly prefer the visuals in the rebuilds and had a lot of issues with their narrative and some of the decisions made, i could elaborate in detail if you wish.
and yeah, i feel differently regarding g witch as well, since i really liked it as i've said previously and don't really relate to a lot of the issues some fans seem to have with it, but i guess i feel for some of them, as i wish more people would have loved it like i did and i have some problems with it as well and think it could have benefited from some more time in the oven, especially some parts of the script.

Well, the mere fact of criticism does not negate the general praise of the films as a whole. It's a matter of their sizes and ratios. As for the differences, I think this is completely normal, given that Anno had conflicting feelings about the ending and always wanted to rewrite it according to his plans. The problem is that Sunrise went so overboard in pandering to a specific audience that G-Witch literally became a show for a very specific audience instead of appealing to as large an audience as they wanted. This is probably why this show seems like attempt number two, as Sunrise still wants to attract a younger audience, but after having done some damage control.
I liked the reboots less than the original series, since I prefer more “down-to-earth” shows to something pretentious and arthouse. Although I think Rebuilds has much better animation and direction. As for G-Witch, for me it is a solid show at 7 out of 10 with the highest quality technical performances, but a very weak plot and a problematic production process. But you are free to have a different opinion if you want, of course.

@betaweeb I find this strange since the popular opinion is basically the opposite. Rebuilds have widespread popularity as "EVA brought to perfection and original design", while G-Witch is still the subject of controversy between people who were first introduced to the franchise through it and people who consider it a failed attempt to reboot the franchise for a new audience. Plus, it also plays a role that Rebuilds were created to fully embody the original author’s concept with all the new features, while G-Witch was too carried away with experimenting with new elements and trends (not to mention yuri and the weird decision to make the new show an actual spiritual remake of an old shoujo show for a completely different audience). That is, a sort of old vs new debate, and taking into account the nuances of mecha as a genre, with the expected outcome.
a couple of things. first, even if what you said was accurate, i don't see why dissenting from a popular opinion should be looked on as strange, people have different opinions and there isn't really a shortage of people that like g witch or others that are critical of the rebuilds.
secondly, i don't think what you said about the rebuilds is really that accurate. the movie series definitely has many fans and appreciators and people were very high on the last one, admittedly more so than myself (but i liked it well enough, despite my gripes). that said though, "widespread popularity as eva brought to perfection and original design" seems like a huge reach. those movies were plenty controversial in their own right, from people that hated the first one for being too much like the original show and therefore feeling a bit pointless and like a recap, to people with the opposite critique, towards the subsequent films, for straying too far away from the original series.
regarding what you said about g witch, i won't even pretend to be in the know here, so i'll just assume what you said about the reception of the series is correct, but none of that really bothers me, as i'm not an OG gundam fan, nor did i watch shows like utena that supposedly are relevant. all i can tell you is that i watched g witch and really liked it (for the reasons specified in my earlier post, among other things).
so while you didn't directly mention how you feel about these anime, if you liked the rebuilds more than me and disliked g witch unlike me, that's perfectly fine brother, i don't see why my opinions about these should really surprise you that much.

@Fortress_Maximus So you'd expect them to use the setting of underground battles and stuff like that as some kind of metaphor for urban problems and experiences? Hence also the focus on the purity and innocence of the MC, immersed in a cruel and criminal world? I think it would be interesting, but how would they fit Gundam into it? Would they create some kind of mecha urban crime story about social stratification, yakuza, police brutality/corruption, etc?
@Adnash Me too. Many people told me that I shouldn't wait for a new TV show for at least another 2-3 years, but they literally announced a new show a couple of years after the last one. Although this can be explained by the fact that this project has been in development even longer than G-Witch

This trailer looks kinda meh. I'm not that much into the series, but I admit the staff looks promising. However, what the heck is that awkward title? xD

You didn't like the rebuilds, but liked G-Witch?
i mean, i guess i liked them well enough as individual experiences (excluding the third one, which was by far the worst one and was a turning point for the worse for the movie series in my opinion), but overall, i just think that that entire project didn't live up to the franchise, didn't add much of value to it and showed a lack of understanding of some of the best and most important elements of the OG series.
obviousely you don't need to agree, but yes, i enjoyed and respect g witch a lot more. the worse thing about g witch was probably how it was paced, when the first season was a bit slow and the second one the opposite to that.
but overall, i loved the production of the show, from the animation and action, to the character design and art, adored the cast of characters and was pretty engaged by the drama and narrative. not a perfect show by any means, but i consistently enjoyed it throughout, something that i can't really say regarding the rebuilds, which frustrated me at many points.

No, but, it can use its setting to convey messaging while still having a coherent focus. There's a police Zaku in the trailer, and from the official website and we're given that Machu is doing these duels illegally, Nyaan is a smuggler and Shuji is a graffiti artist (evident in te trailer, too). Living on the edge of the law like the Gundam Team in ZZ (who were truants and junk dealers to start with).

So this show isn't a bug-fixed reboot of G-Witch, but G-Witch is a cheaper version of that show? What a twist! But all jokes aside, I wonder what the final message this show is going to tell. Surely this won’t be entirely dedicated to underground duels and nothing else?

@Antanaru The anniversary Macross from them is still in development. But I haven't seen any information until now.

This show literally screams "we decided to try to make G-Witch again, but now with your complaints and suggestions in mind", lmao.
It doesn't, though. This show is not a reboot of Witch. The same way SEED is not a reboot of 0079, and 00 is not a reboot of Wing.
Boy, that sure was a short lived interest. It only lasted from reading the news title until the first sentence of the synopsis.
You realize "______ is a high-school student living peacefully in a space colony floating in outer space." is how 0079, SEED, and Unicorn begin, right? If not more? Most Gundams have school aged protagonists :/
