Nozomanu Fushi no Boukensha

While exploring a labyrinth, Rentt Faina, an adventurer with lots of experience but little to show for it, is killed by a dragon upon discovering its lair. Shockingly, he wakes up to find himself turned into a skeleton, the lowest class of undead monsters. As Rentt fights against the other monsters of the labyrinth, he discovers that slaying them gains him experience towards higher stages of undead evolution—even ones with flesh! With this revelation in hand, Rentt obtains a new objective in his undeath: keep evolving in the hope of eventually becoming a vampire, the highest form of undead that is nearly indistinguishable from human beings.

Despite being forced to hide his past identity and monstrous nature under an unremovable mask, Rentt manages to return to a semblance of his former life. Granted shelter by Lorraine Vivier, an elite researcher and retired adventurer, Rentt assumes her surname and starts over from scratch as a rookie. Determined to pursue his childhood dream and become a mithril-class adventurer, Rentt must be cautious not to disclose his new bodily circumstances, lest the adventurers’ guild seek to exterminate the monster he has become.

People don't watch it because of the many negative reviews, and many stop watching it because they expect it to be just another ordinary anime about a man turning into a skeleton or monster, etc.

But this show doesn’t stop there. While much anime about a man turning into a monster focus on them never being able to return to human form, this anime tells the story of a man trying to reclaim his humanity.

We don’t see a stupidly overpowered protagonist becoming a god within 1-2 episodes. This show has real progress to tell, showing the struggle from zero to hero (and even by the finale, ... the main character is still not strong enough, which leaves room for a much-needed season 2).

When you watch this, you're watching a slice-of-life isekai story. The progression might feel slow because it carefully portrays the main character’s daily habits and routines in his new life.

Slice of Life Rating: 8/10. It captures the slice-of-life vibe well, though there are 1-2 minutes in some episodes that feel like wasted screen time with unnecessary scenes.
Comedy Rating: 6/10. The jokes are thoughtful, and you may need to think about what’s going on to get them. This show doesn’t generate much dopamine, so high-energy viewers might not find it entertaining enough.

Pros:
- No overpowered characters; everything feels balanced.
- A slice-of-life adventure with a steady, meaningful story progression.
- Focuses on career and relationship development.
- No poorly cut animation; the quality is consistent and good enough.

Cons:
- Many comedic moments fall flat and fail to deliver laughs.
- The BGM is decent but lacks variation.
- Some slice-of-life scenes feel unnecessary, leaving you questioning why they were included.

Extra Note: Honestly, I’d like to give this show an 8.5, but because I see a lot of negative reviews from people who stopped watching before completing it, I’m giving it a full 10/10 to "support" the show.

Mixed Feelings

A halfway decent take on an RPG genre. At least there aren't many overdone hackneyed elements like yelling names of all the spells while casting them, or getting super flustered and having nosebleeds around attractive women. It does have a few tropes like a main character oblivious of the affections of a long time (hot) friend. Also the MC powered up a little too quickly in just a couple episodes and became an ultra competent adventurer for some reason as a low level monster after 20 years of a daily struggle to succeed as a human.

The story is decent enough for the first season ... but unless they rein it in going forward it could quickly devolve into tired OP MC cliches.

Started out semi-interesting, but then the pacing took a nose dive and just became kind of a chore to get through after that. The action is pretty basic, the level detail in the characters and backgrounds too. The characters are lacking and so it the depth of the story. At least it had the common sense not to make it an isekai for no reason like every other anime of this genre. The pacing was insufferable after the first few episodes and really never recovered. The voice acting was pretty mid, not the worst, but really not very moving. The soundtrack was fine, but the ... scenes the tracks were used for were ill fitting and overall a bit cheesy. The op was alright, and I thought the ed was pretty good. Overall, I was a little disappointed by it all around. Immediately it was apparent that the animation wasn't going to be the highlight, but the pacing and story were interesting enough to hold my attention. That soon changed though and it just became a chore to get through. 5.35/10 Dubbed
