"What Are You Doing? Pray!" Are You Praying and Sacrificing for the Incoming Administration?

Before Our Lady visited Fatima, the Angel of Peace appeared three times to the little shepherd children: Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta. On his second visit he chided the little ones, saying, “What are you doing? You must pray! Pray a lot! The Hearts of Jesus and Mary have merciful designs on you. You must constantly offer your prayers and sacrifices to GOD, the Most High."

Sunday Meditation: When God Doesn't Seem to be Answering Prayers....

....THINK AGAIN!

St. Augustine & St. Monica, pray for us.

God always answers our prayers. Sometimes He says yes and sometimes He says no. God loves us so we can be sure when He says no that what we are asking for is not good for us.

When He says yes, sometimes He takes His own time. Abraham and Sarah prayed for a child. God told them, yes, not only would they have a child, but their descendants would be like the stars of the sky. But God made them wait...and wait...and wait.

Instead of trusting Him, they decided to take things into their own hands. Sarah convinced Abraham to have relations with her maid, Hagar. Ai yi yi! We all know how that ended and we're still suffering from the battle between Isaac and Ishmael today.

Maybe God delays fulfillment of His yes to help us grow in patience and perseverance. And sometimes, He rewards that patience and perseverance with an abundance we can hardly imagine. Let me share an excerpt from Trustful Surrender to Divine Providence about St. Monica and her sixteen-year prayer vigil for the conversion of her son, Augustine:

Fr. Chad Ripperger's Prayer for the Outcome of the Election

Our Lady of Sorrows, pray for us who have recourse to Thee.

Mary Immaculate, living tabernacle of the Divinity, where the eternal Wisdom lies hidden to be adored and served by angels and men, Queen of heaven and of earth, beneath whose sway are subject all things that are lower than God, Patroness of the United States of America, sorrowful and mindful of our own sinfulness and the sins of our nation, we come to Thee, our refuge and hope.

What We Can Learn From the Hummingbird Wars!

I have a hummingbird feeder hanging near my office window, a source of much amusement. One little female has delegated to herself the role of sentry. She feeds and then sits on the tippytop of the pole holding the feeder. From there she dive bombs other hummingbirds (mostly other females) to keep them from feeding. Occasionally, a ruby-throated male drops in for a drink, but most of boys apparently have already begun migrating. The females usually remain a bit longer, so the war is usually among the girls. Seems like a lot of wasted energy for nothing but territorial rivalry.

It's a Spiritual Work of Mercy: Pray for the Living and the Dead.

I got a message this morning from a dear friend whom I've known since she was a teenager. I did a reading at her wedding back in the early 80s. She asked for prayers for her daughter, a busy mom of many, who is in the hospital with pneumonia. I've received many prayer requests lately: from a young father who's very sick, from an internet friend who lost his job and is near retirement age with not even a thin parachute for his golden years, from a number of sick family members including my sister in a nursing home, and from a number of other suffering souls. I've been keeping the Poor Clares busy with all the requests for their intercessory prayers.

This Land is Your Land! Pray for her and your local community!

Woodstock, VA historic courthouse

Does it make you angry to see the evil global elitists doing everything they can to destroy not only our country, but all the sovereign nations of the world? Love of your homeland is a virtue.  According to St. Thomas Aquinas it is man's nature to be  a “civic and social animal.” (ST, I-II, 72.4) Society begins in the family, the basic building block of every community. If the family is moral and strong, a nation will be moral and strong. That's why communist philosophy always strikes at the family. Orwell showed that masterfully in 1984 where children were encouraged to spy on their parents and report them for violations against Big Brother.

Septuagesima Sunday: Time to Start Thinking and Planning My Lent!

We all want to make a good Lent, right? It's coming in only a few weeks, so now is the time to begin planning how we will make the best of it. How will we apply prayer, fasting, and almsgiving in our daily lives?

My husband and I have decided to study Bishop Schneider's compendium of the faith, Credo, as our prayer and study. I recently ordered both the books and the study guides. We've decided to begin today and make part of our observance of Sunday, reading and studying the faith so we can share it more effectively.

Have You Thanked Your Guardian Angel Today?

Today is the feast of the guardian angels. How many people ever talk to or thank their
guardian angel for his 24/7 attention. When you have a close call on the road, when you meet a friend "by coincidence" when you need someone to talk to, when you take a serious fall but are spared any serious injury?  Was it, perhaps, the protective action of your angel always on watch?

The angels are powerful and eager to help us -- but only in things that bring us closer to God. Don't ask your guardian angel to give you the numbers for the big lottery win. How many people's lives have been ruined by quick riches? Too many to count. But praying before studying that you might be well prepared for a test or praying before taking up the Scripture asking for guidance in understanding God's word....

The angels will happily respond to those kinds of prayer.

Today's meditation in Benedictus is well worth quoting in part:

Come for Lunch and Pray the Rosary Together!

During the COVID lockdowns I began hosting bi-monthly rosary lunches with a group of Catholic women to get us all out of isolation -- laughing, chatting, and praying together. I still do them occasionally but not as frequently. They are always a blessing to me personally and fulfill a desire God has given me to practice hospitality.

This morning, reading The Imitation of Christ, I meditated on this passage:

Do You Know How Much You're Loved? Get to Know Your Guardian Angel to Find Out!

Do you talk to your guardian angel? I don't mean just saying the Angel of God prayer once or twice a day. Do you really have conversations with your angel? Have you ever asked your angel for advice about a specific problem? Have you ever sent your angel to pray with another person's guardian angel?

Take Jesus to the Streets! Witness to an Unbelieving World!

As I watched these Eucharistic Processions, I wondered whether this will become illegal at some point. Crazy thought? In England, a town has already banned making the sign of the cross, reading Scripture, praying audibly or using holy water in a "safe zone" around an abortion business. (Source) Let us continue to worship publicly while we still can. No doubt the godless tyrants of the United States are already considering how they can stop such public displays of faith that are so anti-social.

LET US PRAY!

"More Musing, Less Amusing"

My blog partner, Susan, and I both have the same addiction. We are book-a-philes. And we demonstrate it with piles of books all over our respective houses. One of the common traits of book-o-philes is that you often find that you have purchased the same book more than once. As I get older that seems to be happening to me more often. But I don't regret it. I just have wonderful gifts to share with others. I sent my godson a copy of Peter Kwasniewski's book on the Eucharist. (Actually, I bought that extra copy on purpose.) But the other day as I was beginning Roberto de Mattei's biography of St. Pius V, I looked over at my bookcase and there another copy stared back at me. Now who would like that for Christmas?

Do You Listen to Gossip, Slander, and Detraction: Learn a Lesson from Socrates!

I receive a daily devotional from the SSPX. The other day this fascinating meditation and story about Socrates gave me an intriguing insight into the need to close our ears to gossip, slander, and detraction. When we "listen," we become guilty of the same sin as the tale-bearer.

What a life's ambition Socrates had -- to pursue truth and encourage others to join him. Imagine the difference we would see in our culture if knowing and spreading truth were the central goal of every man and woman on the planet.

Consider...God is Truth, so if you are searching for truth, you are searching for God. I once said that to an abortion supporter named Dan at an Operation Rescue event in Washington, D.C. I told him that he seemed to me to be a young man searching for the truth and, if you are searching for truth, you are searching for God. That happened over 30 years ago and I still pray for Dan today. I hope he is pursuing truth and has found it in Jesus Christ.

A Joyful Story for Monday Morning: Can You Introduce a Little of the Monastery into Your Day?

Most of us aren't called to the cloister, but we can introduce a little of the cloister into our day. Praying for the good of the Church and the world is an apostolate we can all practice. May God lead us to prayer and silence during the duties of our day. May we imitate these holy women and bring peace and joy to our world.

Don't Fool Yourself, Everybody has Faith in Something and Practices Religious Worship!

There's no such thing as an unbeliever. Everybody believes in something.

Some worship Mother Nature. Some wear their crystals and worship the moon, the stars, pagan goddesses, etc. Some worship money. As St. Paul says, some think of nothing but their bellies. One could say they worship their taste buds and their digestive system. Some actively worship Satan. Some worship Dr. Fauci. Have you seen all the ridiculous religious items being sold in his name? Wow! And then there are those who worship themselves.

Sunday Meditation: Pray for the Outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Our Country. We Need It!

Come, O Holy Spirit, and wake us up. Pour out all your gifts on each of us who desires wholeheartedly to know You, love You, and serve You. Confirm us in our baptismal promises this day and every day. Help us to "just say no" to all the deceits of Satan and his minions. Let us not return evil for evil, but imitate You who transforms evil into opportunities for good. Give us all of Your gifts that we might have the wisdom to know the truth, the understanding to interpret all things according to God's will, the courage and kindness to counsel gently, and the fortitude to persevere. Give us the grace to kneel humbly at the foot of the cross with our Mother Mary enfolding us in her mantle. Send our guardian angels to guide and rule us as servants and foot soldiers for You. May we never run away from the battle, but be faithful members of the Church Militant under our king, Jesus Christ, and his twelve star general, Our Lady.

Through Christ Our Lord.  Amen

Don't Let Wickedness Disturb Your Peace: God Uses Evil to Bring about Good!

I generally begin my morning by praying the Office of Readings and meditating on selections from The Imitation of Christ and the Imitation of Mary. I think most Catholics are familiar with The Imitation of Christ by Thomas a Kempis written in the 15th century, but perhaps many haven't heard of The Imitation of Mary composed by a French Jesuit, Alexandre Joseph de Rouville, and published in 1768. These two books make me think of the prayer, "Jesus and Mary, I love you; save souls" because Jesus and Mary are perfect companions on the spiritual journey.

Often the short chapters from the two books (I read one chapter from each every morning.) are in perfect harmony, like a song of praise and thanksgiving. Sometimes I marvel at the "coincidence" of how they blend so seamlessly. Thank You, Lord, for your gifts from the Holy Spirit!

We Must Pray with Increased Fervor for Our Poor Country. Let Us Call on the Mother of Mercy.

As we celebrate this Feast of the Epiphany when the wise men came seeking the King of Kings, our country is at a crossroads. The liars and cheaters, the enemies of Christ, seem to be in ascendence. The wolves are among us ravaging the flock. Let us pray for all those going to Washington, D.C. today with patriots' hearts to defend the integrity of our election system.

All seems lost, but with God, all things are possible. Let us beg Mary's intercession for the land we love and for our children and grandchildren who will face her collapse and live among the ruins.

Let us pray:

No Mas! No Mass! No Sacrilegious Communions!

I wonder how many people live in perpetual darkness in a state of mortal sin. How many approach for Communion every Sunday after a week of immersing themselves in pornography or engaging in sodomy, contraception, fornication, adultery, theft, slander, scandal, etc. -- all the seven deadly sins.

How many then, in their rationalization, professing to be "devout Catholics," betray Jesus like Judas with the kiss of sacrilege?

Yesterday, Fr. Tom wrote cogently about Our Lord saying "No Mas!" I thought of that today as I prayed the Mass at St. John Bosco in front of the tabernacle using St. Jean Vianney's 14th Eucharistic Meditation on "Unworthy Communion" as my "homily." Sobering indeed and a warning to those who dare to profane Christ with sacrilegious Communions.
