Need a Break from the Bad News? Check out these delightful stories!

I think we could all use some inspiring stories these days. A steady diet of bad news is hard on the heart. So here's my First Friday dose of smiles. Remember the "Got milk?? ad, well here's my "Got hope?" ad. The movie Life is Beautiful shows the power of hope and humor in one of the most dismal times in history. It's fiction, but we all know there were people in the concentration camps who spread hope. In our dark culture, we can do the same.

Would Andy Short Still Be Alive If He Were Born at Great Ormond Street Hospital?

Whose life is not worth living? If you're feeling sorry for yourself this morning, get some inspiration from Andy Short and his trainer, Lee Campbell. When I watched this I thought of Helen Keller and Annie Sullivan. Andy and Lee are doing great things together. May God bless this beautiful adventure. I think Mother Teresa would say Andy and Lee are doing "something beautiful for God." Thanks be to God for Andy's parents who loved him unconditionally and never gave up on him.

They Thought She Would Die, but God Had Another Plan

Shak and Robin Hill got bad news with Robin's second pregnancy. But God had a plan. And by the way, doctors often get it wrong. They aren't God and they don't have all the answers. Next time you get bad news from a doctor remember why they call it the "practice" of medicine.

I'm happy to know Shak and I met Jake when Shak was running for Senate in Virginia. I haven't had the pleasure of meeting Robin yet, but hope to one day.May God bless this wonderful family and their witness to the value of human life.

What an Amazing Young Man!

Think of all the "beautiful people" whose behavior is cruel and ugly and then look at this young seventeen-year-old with his incredibly positive outlook on life. What an inspiration! His philosophy of life reminded me of the advice Cinderella's mother gave her before she died: "Have courage and be kind." That about sums it up, doesn't it?

The World Would Love to Eliminate People Like Paul Smith

All they see is the disability. How many handicapped people have so much to offer to the world. But as the nursing home worker says, it's Paul, not his art, that is the most important. It's great to enjoy his art, but "not as good as enjoying him." The next time you see a seriously handicapped individual, praise God for the gifts you do not see. May God give us His eyes through which to see the world!

Thank God for a Happy Ending!

When something like this happens in your own back yard, you feel like it's your story too. Praise God that this little boy was found safe and sound and for that faithful dog Chance!

Another Brave Mother Chooses Life

Mom Defies Doctor’s Suggestion to Have an Abortion, Baby Defies the Odds

So many parents today kill their babies in utero because they find out they have a physical or mental challenge. That always boggles my mind. I wonder if anybody asks them, "What if you found out your baby was sick when he was three months old. Would you ask the doctor to treat him by killing him?"

Life is filled with challenges. How many people have been injured in a car, bike, skateboard, sledding, diving, trampoline, sports, etc. accidents? Your perfectly healthy five-year-old could face a tragedy tomorrow that left her permanently brain damaged. Your teenager could fall and hit his head and be in a coma. There are no guarantees in life.

I'm so glad to be a Catholic and know that God loves me and my family more than I can even imagine. No matter what happens, He is in control and will be there right with me as I struggle through it. And he loves my children and grandchildren more than I do. Trust in God. It's not easy, but it's the only way to peace.

The Ultimate in Creating Your Own Reality

Teen Transgender Couple: Boy Was [Is] a Girl and Girl Was [Is] a Boy

Pray for these two mixed up young people. No matter how many surgeries they go through and hormones they take, every cell in their bodies identifies them as male or female. God made their DNA and it puts to the lie their "love" story. This is what happens when life is defined by feelings and when sexual dysfunction is normalized. What's next? Using technology to get a baby so they can expand their world of make-believe? In the meantime, think of the scandal they are causing by encouraging other youngsters to follow in their
footsteps. And note, if you watch the video, that it's all about "me:" my feelings, my pain, my crush, etc.

Same-sex attraction is a cross and Jesus told us to "pick up your cross and follow me." There are many crosses in  life that are no less challenging than same-sex attraction. Here's a story of a man who has accepted his cross. His is the story of inspiration, not the narcissistic "love story" above.

Another Miracle Baby Defies the Odds

Miracle Baby: Congresswoman’s Daughter Defies Doctors’ Predictions She Would Die

This really hit home because the baby's has the same name as a niece of mine who had a little one born with a serious problem. Thank God none of the doctors recommended killing my sick grand niece so her parents didn't have to deal with the stress of that on top of the baby's condition. She is doing well and just celebrated her first birthday. Thank you, God, for pro-life parents who aren't afraid to say yes and fight for their little ones. Welcome, Baby Abigail and a big congratulations to your parents! We'll be praying that you continue to do well in the weeks and months ahead.

What Kind of Beauty Matters? The Inside or the Outside?

Read about Margaret of Costello who would be a great patron for Lizzie! She's one of my favorite saints. Margaret was born blind, humpbacked, with major physical deformities. She was less blessed than Lizzie whose parents loved her. Margaret's parents took her to a shrine hoping for a miraculous cure and when she wasn't cured they abandoned her in a strange city. Poor girl. She always made excuses for them. What a grace-filled young woman she must have been - like Lizzie. Think about all the "beautiful people" who live lives committed to selfishness and evil. You wonder if there's a picture in the attic showing all their corruption. Then there's Lizzie who, like Mother Teresa, may be lacking in physical beauty, but shines with the light of Christ! May God shower her with blessings and bless everyone who hears her speak.

Inspiration for Sunday: A Black Prophet...

...who could have been talking about all the rabble rousers and race baiters at the NAACP like Al Sharpton when he made the statement below. They are the real bigots who want to keep blacks on the liberal plantation pimping for money and power by playing the race card ad infinitum.

Did you know the NAACP rejected black conservative groups from their national convention? It doesn't fit their agenda. And I wonder...do you think black youth are taught anything about these black heroes like Booker T. Washington and George Washington Carver? How about modern black heroes and role models like Clarence Thomas, Ben Carson, Mia Love, Thomas Sowell, Walter Williams, Allen West, Alveda Washington, Star Parker, etc.? Somehow...I really doubt it!

I LOVE This Story: Tim the Hugger!

Meet Tim: 27-year-old restaurant owner with Down syndrome

I'm sending my Albuquerque friends to get me a virtual hug on video. I want one. Yea, Tim!

Just think, 80% of kids with Downs are murdered before birth. What a sad hole would have been left in the world without Tim. If you know a pregnant mom with an in utero diagnosis of a child with Downs, send her this article and video. The world doesn't need more Ph.D.'s. It needs more Tims!

Praise God for this Skilled Worker who Saved all his Passengers!

A lot of people on that plane must have been praying. I'd like to know more about the pilot!
