An absolute fever dream of the VN...which kinda fits, coming from Unagi
tbh, although I do think that this VN showcases some cool effects/cinematic stuff, it kinda misses on the story front.
There's a lot of terminology front-loaded on the reader, and if you're not hyper-aware of the My Wolf VNs from the last game jam, it's a lot of "I think this is a reference but it's kinda incomprehensible to me"
In addition, there's a lot of jarring UI stuff that is mainly distracting and at the extreme, starts to make the computer run slower.
I liked the Alones tie in, and Wacky's sense of humor and art is always nice to see.
I think where it falls a little short, for me, and this is very much a personal thing, is that the plot is a little lacking in terms of providing a hook, and a lot of the development between the characters is skipped over.

Really liking this game so far...your character writing is really well done.
Only thing I would ask for after the demo is an options menu to adjust audio in the game and the text speed. I was having to tweak the audio a lot during the game so that it was comfortable, and the text speed was a little slow.
Before you Depart is a really good oneshot VN. Wasn't expecting much novel from the May Wolf contest, but ByD definitely wowed me.
I'm very familiar with Cetus' writing, and enjoyed seeing him writing for a very different character than Judah (ICO). The writing flowed well, the pacing of the scenes worked and didn't feel drug out.
I also really enjoyed the art style for this VN, Arcadia really hit it out of the park. I liked the expressionist CGs that felt right out of an Edvard Munch painting, and some of the cutouts felt very inspired by Revolutionary Girl Utena. Only thing that i felt could use a little tweaking is that Memento didn't quite mesh. Maybe that's purposeful given his character, but the design felt a little incoherent.
I also really liked the space waltz music, it was a nice use of original music to highlight a key moment.
All in all, would def reccomend you give this a look. Stories like this have been told before, but everything works together to deliver a vivid experience.
Upon further research, it appears that my CPU is a bit underpowered (i5 9300H @ 2.4 GH)...
Feels weird, cause I can run plenty of other 3D games just fine.
The low specs update that was just released got me a bit further, but as soon as the characters went outside, it crashed.
I hope they're able to further optimize the game, i'd love to play it as opposed to watching someone else play it.
First time I played, it got right to when you meet Eva, and it crashed
Tried loading it again, and it got to the scene with the train, and IQRL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL with a blue screen of death popped up, with the error occurring with nvlddmkm.sys . I have a pretty new computer, so i'm reluctant to mess with my drivers when I don't have this problem with literally any other game.
Actually, mastectomies were readily being explored as early as the 1800s (and even earlier, although this was before general anesthesia). In fact, the first surgery under anesthesia happened in 1804...and was a mastectomy. I have to question your dismissal of the narrative if you can't even google "history of mastectomies".
"Didn't get what was advertised on the box?" I don't remember you ever being promised anything other that this game contains +18 content.
Oh wow, of course! I'd be honored!
For Maelbjorn's couplet, to keep each line with ten syllables, here are two possible alternatives:
- Once an heir, god-sentenced to perdition / The sword has become his chief ambition.
- The gods sentenced this heir to perdition / So the sword became his chief ambition.
If you want to talk more about this, I'm Kopten#9136 over on Discord. Let me know if there's anything else localization-wise you'd want a second opinion on, I love this sort of thing.
I'm interested in seeing where this goes. I really liked your french couplets, so I tried to make english versions of them:
Maelbjorn
An heir, heaven sentenced to perdition
The sword has become his chief ambition
Akhet
Peckish fear and exile keep him wary
The southern minstrel seeks sanctuary
Vekad
So strong and slender, the lord of the hunt
Pursued by phantoms that he must confront
Tenoch
Heir of the dragons, lover of the flame
Avoiding cold and blade should be his aim
I really appreciate how well you took my critique from earlier...most people don't take criticism well, and I honestly believe that you have made a better product now. I appreciate that you still left Bat's anger towards Bear in there but allowed him to later regret how he talked towards him. It shows that relationships are tough and there's not always a wholey right and wholey wrong person in an argument.
Also, I really like the revamp of Bear's route. Feels a bit more weighty, and both of them get to be strong in it.
