Well-polished "point-and-click" (well, a menu instead of using the mouse). Didn't go particularly far, but it seemed mechanically sound. Art was good, the sound effects were on-point.

For whatever reason, the menu options would change in weird ways when you tried to go a direction you couldn't, leading to choosing an unintended option.

Yeah everyone's mentioned it. TLDR I made the menu reset to the original option after both successful and unsuccessful interactions with a slight delay, and it's more confusing than I expected. 100% getting changed post-ratings period :P

Thanks for the feedback! :)

This game looks so good! I really like the color palette and the way you used it, especially on the cover art

Nice entry! I like the text adventure concept a lot! I don't know if it is a bug, but, I noticed I can take candies from the same house forever lol.

Great job anyway!

Nice game! The art and music are amazing. I couldn't reach the green square areas on the map, and I'm not sure if there were ways to unlock them, but I explored every corner and they didn't open up. Everything looks great, and the idea of the game is excellent.

I noticed some comments about the options not working. This happened to me at first too, but I figured out that when I select an option that isn't possible, it has a timer to reset back to the first option, but my input is still available. It wasn't an issue for me once I noticed it.

Overall, excellent game jam submission! I'm looking forward to see the combat system on the other side of the map. Keep up the great work!

Thanks!
Yeah the map was put in manually area by area (a proper map editor would have wasted a lot of time relative to the project scope :P ) so on the last day simply the first 'tier' of area was added and the connections to the other areas aren't defined.

And you're right, the options reset on a timer. I'm viewing it as a bug to undo that design decision and likely shift the four movement directions to unique buttons in the UI as well once I get around to a post-jam update or two.

The concept is pretty cool, the art looks great and the music/sfx are nice. there isn't much I have to say complaint wise, there was a small bug where it would jump to the first option but it really didn't change much and the exploration could be a bit less confusing at first (but older games tended to just throw you into the game expecting you to know what's going on so I guess points for accuracy). Overall this is a solid entry, I think it just needs a bit more polish and it would be completely fine.

I really like the concept of the game and color palette! Sometimes my options was switching, but overall very solid entry!

Everything is pretty good except the User Interface. I find it a bit confusing and not friendly. Also, sometimes it switches options without my consent, which makes me do not what I wanted to do :(

Great concept anyway, I hope to see more of it <3

I haven’t played a text adventure like this in so long, thanks for the nostalgia! Obvious exits are: North, South, and… Dennis.

Lovely adventure, but the navigation interface could be a bit friendlier. For example, if we're not allowed to go a certain direction at some point, there's no need to list it as an option. Presentation was nice and polished, nice entry!

That was cool! The art is proficient, and the concept is intriguing. I like the gothic soundtrack!

One thing I've noticed is that, even if you select a new option after the result of an action, a few seconds later it will "snap back" to the default option. It's a little annoying.

All-in-all, good work!

Excellent art and music. The sound effects gave me those good brain tingles. Ya'll know the ones I'm talking about. Gameplay-wise it felt like the old text based adventure games I used to play, but with prompts and graphics, so I was sold. It really helps immerse you in the world and story. Once it gets some combat I'm coming back for sure. Nice job!

Pretty good start to your concept here. I did have one issue where my menu kept resetting to 'Explore' if I went through the options too quickly, but I'm curious to see how you implement the combat system (I really wanted to go into the tough kids area). Art design is very well done

Cool concept, enjoyed the game and feels right at home on the game boy. I didn't have any bgm though and felt the scrolling through the menu to choose directions felt cumbersome at points but that may have been a bug on my end.

Developer

If you pressed Enter, that was the mute-music button, in-case that was the issue. Thanks for the feedback :)

Ahhh dang, must have done that by accident

Chill game, well done on finishing it in time for submission!

A charming game. The music slapped hard and I listened through the whole thing on Bandcamp. Loved the graphics and the usage of the palette which really bought it all to life. Exploring was fun and poking down those alleyways to find dead ends and wells! I found it difficult to know which exits were available.

I'm definitely coming back once combat is added. Exciting.

wonderful art! I had some weird behavior with the web player, like the menu changing without me pressing buttons (I think switching back to the Explore option)
