Führt der Euro zu Preiskonvergenz?

Abstract

Dieser Artikel beschäftigt sich mit den Auswirkungen der Einführung einer gemeinsamen Währung, des Euro, auf die Entwicklung der Unterschiede im Preisniveau innerhalb des Euroraums. Die Resultate zeigen, dass die Preisunterschiede in Europa kleiner geworden sind. Diese Preiskonvergenz ist allerdings nicht auf die Länder des Euroraums oder den Zeitraum seit der Euroeinführung beschränkt. Entsprechend finden sich keine Hinweise darauf, dass der Euro preisintegrierende Effekte entfaltet hat. Befürchtungen, die Einführung des Euro könne für die Schweiz mit zunehmenden Preisdivergenzen zu wichtigen Nachbarländern verbunden sein, haben sich damit nicht bewahrheitet.
