Azumi[1] shi ne kamewa[2] daga barin cin abinci ko sha ko jima'i (saduwan tsakanin namiji da mace) ko shan taba ko allura ta abinci daga ketowar alfijir nabiyu har zuwa faduwan rana. Hakika Allah ya wajabta azumi acikin Alkur'ani mai girma inda yace "duk wanda ya riski watan (Ramadan) to ya azumceshi" shi Musulmi ne (surah albakarah 2:185) sannan ya kara da cewa "ya ku masu imani hakika an wajabta muku azumi kamar yanda akawajabta ma wanda suke gabaninku koku zakuyi takawa" (albakarah 2:183).
