I have a doubt, the chan_dongle will only work with the modem in 2g mode? Not 3g? Most of the Brazil carriers will stop using 2g networks soon (some places already disabling) and the chan_dongle could be a great alternative, as the most GSM gateways are 2G only as well.

chan_dongle can work in 2G and in 3G. You can find AT commands in wiki to switch modem mode.

Quectel CREG correction

chan_dongle code assumes 4 parameters in response to command and 3 for URC. However quectel provides 5 and 4 respectively. This fix helps pass on correct status of registration.
