Vasek Hlavac's user experience with CTU thesis #9
Comments
The use of the template and the documentation is straightforward. I did not check the documentation carefully. It is on my ToDo list. The only minor observation. If I select xdoctype = B in \ctusetup then "Bachelor project" appears at the top of the title page. If I select xdoctype = m then "Master thesis" appears. This is inconsistent. I would prefer "thesis" in both cases or the possiblity to select from these options. |
At the first sight it looks great! (Honestly, better than I expected if no manual tweaks were used. I already see two things to solve:

One more thing. I copied the pdf and tex of the main file to the newly created directory in CTUthesisVH named HeapOfStuff. It might be used as a comparisson with the CTU template under development. |
I included the assignments (both in Czech and English) at the beginning of the thesis. I added piece of the manual in Appendix, section 2. Here, I have troubles with \includepdf command from pdfpages package. It includes only one page. I do not have experience with this package. Maybe it is not caused by the CTUtemplate. I cannot give the Lejsek thesis more work today. Tomasi Hejdo, tell me what would help you most in testing the package. I can also write the intro into the CTUtemplate manual about the motivation why the template has been created. |
Za tohle kazdopadne diky, je prijemne videt, ze sablona je pouzitelna. |
ad 2) Jasne. Dekuji za vysvetleni. ad 3) Skvele. Staci napsat do manualu. Potom je jedno, co bude default. Motivace do manualu, Chapter 1 Introduction. Jen navrh. Prepiste, mozna mate lepsi anglictinu nez ja. The ctuthesis \LaTeX template was written by Tomas Hejda because there is wider demand for it at CTU. The aim has been to provide a \LaTeX tool to students and their advisors for writing qualification theses (e.g. bachelor, master, Ph.D.). \LaTeX as a tool for professional typesetting has had a significant group of users at CTU. The ctuthesis template can be selected and used voluntarily, i.e. if the student and the advisor agree on that. There were several more local attempts in creating \LaTeX templates for qualification theses at CTU. Let us give only two examples. First, the package ctu, https://github.com/kyrcore/ctu-latex. Its development seems to be interrupted since 2013. Second, the package CMPthesis written and maintained up to now by Vit Zyka, provided only internally at https://www-cmp.felk.cvut.cz/proceedings/TeX/texmf-cmp/tex/latex/cmpthesis/cmpthesis.pdf. Petr Olsak from the Department of Mathematics came with the initiative to create a \TeX package for qualification theses and offered it to the whole CTU in 2013, see (in Czech) https://petr.olsak.net/ctustyle.html. The package is less spread because there are fewer \TeX users than \LaTeX users at CTU. The ctuthesis \LaTeX package, described in this document, was inspired by P. Olsak’s \TeX package. The aim is to preserve very similar graphical look. I (Tomas Hejda) volunteered to write a \LaTeX package with similar properties as P. Olsak’s ctustyle package. P. Olsak has supported this initiative. The small team around the ctuthesis package (Tomas Hejda, Vaclav Hlavac, Petr Olsak) has attempted persuading CTU leaders to support this package and help offering it at university-wide scale for the voluntary use. As many students and supervisors use other publishing/typesetting tools, as e.g. Microsoft Word, the mentioned team encourages someone to write a template, maybe with similar outer look to P. Olsak’s \TeX template ctustyle and T. Hejda’s \LaTeX template ctuthesis. |
The parameter xfaculty can attain the value F1 to F8. However, CTU has also its other parts. See Statutes, https://www.cvut.cz/documents/10552/0b61f31c-bc2f-4473-b355-ade4627c330b Clanek 25, 26. Could these be added to this parameter? |
I started testing Tomas Hejda's ctuthesis template on a diploma thesis of my ex-student Tadeas Lejsek. The attempts and results can be found in https://github.com/vasekhlavac/ctuthesisVH.git
