Grade Moodle assignments offline in Emacs

Installing

Place moodle.el in your load-path and (require 'moodle).

Usage

To grade an assignment, download the corresponding CSV file from Moodle and start grading with M-x moodle-grade-assignment. There are two windows: The first can be used to enter grades and feedback. It also shows some basic student information. The second window shows the solution entered by the student. At this time there is only support for solutions entered in plain text, markdown, and HTML (no support for uploaded documents). If the solution was entered in HTML, Emacs’s own render engine will be used for display. Note, however, that there is currently no support for displaying images uploaded by the student. If an image was uploaded and references in HTML, am asterisk will be shown instead of the image.

When finished grading, just upload the CSV file back to Moodle to enter the grades and your feedback into the system.

Disclaimer: This software is experimental and unfinished. Use at your own risk.

Key commands in the window showing student info (record view):

M-right
Save grade and feedback and move to the next student. Wraps around at the end of the list.
M-left

C-c r

C-c C-c

Key commands in the window showing the solution (solution view):

C-c g
Google marked region with quotes. Can be used to check for plagiarism.
C-c .
Google each sentence of the solution. Caution: If the solution is long, this may open a lot of tabs in your browser and Google may block you temporarily.
