Changes

  • Switch from D3D9On12 to DXVK
  • Increase resolution to headset's target resolution
  • Fire and water shaders are fixed
  • Fixes graphics flickering when lots is happening on screen
  • Can now max out settings without crashing (don't touch the resolution)
  • Game will only launch if you use "-insecure"

New issues

  • Menu UI is even worse (use arrow keys when you can)
  • DXVK might stutter when you first play as it compiles shaders but should smooth out over time

  • Multiplayer should work now
  • To play multiplayer, click Campaign -> Play with friends -> Create new campaign lobby -> Set server type to Local Server
  • The host must have the mod installed. The other players need the mod installed if they also want to play in VR, but they can still play in flatscreen without the mod.

Instructions

  1. Download L4D2VR.zip and extract the files to your Left 4 Dead 2 directory (steamapps\common\Left 4 Dead 2)
  2. Launch SteamVR, then launch Left 4 Dead 2 with these launch options:
    • -insecure -window -novid +mat_motion_blur_percent_of_screen_max 0 +crosshair 0
  3. Set your video settings to these. If you want better texture quality, set Shader Detail to medium, and Paged Pool Memory to high.
  4. Start a campaign and press A on your controller (or F6) to activate VR.
  5. If the camera starts clipping into walls, press down on the left stick to recenter.
