The AVF movie player for AVG CART that PLAYS SOUND WITHOUT HISSLE or HUM.

Original from Avery Lee, modified for AVGCART by (who? tmp?)

Modified by me to be even better.

This is related to playing fullscreen video 50/60FPS with almost 7 bit resolution of sound on plain, unmodified Atari 8-bit computers!

Hello.

I have managed to fix the original AVFPLAY player for AVGCART in a way that every sound sample plays exactly in the same cycle of the line.

This is crucial, because play audio method used is PWM, so even one-cycle 1.79MHz shift is audible as hiss or whistle.

You can drop this player on your SD card and replace the old one.

The active production version is movplay_smoothsound.asm (as declared in Makefile)

Type "make" to build AVFPLAY various versions, then copy the needed binary to the root of the AVGCART's sd card.

If you want to make one compressed with exomizer (that runs on Atari on 6502 CPU), type "make build". Then copy the binary to sd card.

Added features:

  • ESC - exit to CART menu
  • option - volume up
  • select - volume down
  • start pause on/off
  • removed annoying beep at the start

The code used to work under Linux and OSX. However, some install options in Makefile do work only under OSX. Under linux copying to sd card has to be done manually.

Installing:

To install copy AVFPLAY from proper bin/subdir to the root of AVGCART SD CARD.
