Hello,

We have examples of proteins that bind the cis-regulatory chromatin regions but do not have DNA sequence-specific binding activities. Obvious ones are transcription coregulators, but there are also kinases such as MTOR (see PMID:20233713).

We used to have parents of terms such as 'RNA polymerase II cis-regulatory region sequence-specific DNA binding' that omitted the 'sequence-specific' aspect, but we still children of DNA binding. So, we propose to create terms that would be children of 'chromatin binding':

  • RNA polymerase I cis-regulatory chromatin region binding
  • RNA polymerase II cis-regulatory chromatin region binding
  • RNA polymerase III cis-regulatory chromatin region binding (PMID:20233713)

This will indicate recuitement to the cis-regulatory region by other factors, and hence indirect binding, but presence in the I/II/III promoters/enhancers.

Thanks, Pascale
