[edit]Inherited from Old Czech vzieti, from Proto-Slavic *vъzęti; see vz- and jmout. Cognate with Russian взять (vzjatʹ).

Usage notes
[edit]- The preposition za (behind) is used because you place your hands behinds things when you want to get a grip on them.
