this coming

English
[edit]Adjective
[edit]this coming (not comparable)
- (set phrase) (of dates, especially days of the week) the immediate next, rather than the one belonging to the following week (year, etc.).
- Remember, it isn't this coming Wednesday/weekend, but the one after.
Usage notes
[edit]Used instead of next to disambiguate between the different possible senses of that adjective (as when, for example, if one says "next Saturday" on a Thursday, it may not be clear whether the Saturday in two days or in nine days is meant). Can also be used with months, holidays, etc.: when you said "next December," did you mean this coming December or December of next year?
