Etymology

[edit]

Inherited from Proto-Slavic *dъva desęti. By surface analysis, dva +‎ dsěti, derived from the dual of desět. Although the word desět is feminine, the masculine form of dva is used. This can be explained by the number formerly also being masculine or by an irregularity caused by mechanical counting.
