Talk:dree
Add topicThe Random House "Modern Library of the World's Best Books" includes an English-language translation of Nana by Emile Zola. The Introduction is by Ernest Boyd and is dated November of 1927. I cannot find a publication date for the book, and I cannot find a translator's name. Chapter 1 includes the sentence "Ever since this morning people have been dreeing me with Nana." I realize that this usage seems to be in the active voice rather than the passive, but I am sure it is the same word. (Sorry if some of this belongs under the Discussion tab rather than the Citation tab.) In Chapter 6, the translation reads "After which, she dreed her guests with honourable sentiments."
