[edit]From Aramaic פְּלַטְיָא (pəlaṭiyā), פַּלְטִיתָא (paləṭīṯā), from Ancient Greek πλατεῖα (plateîa). Has a denominal root ب ل ط (b-l-ṭ). Cognate to Classical Syriac ܦܠܰܛܺܝܰܐ (pəlaṭiyā).
