Edits for draft article about Prof. J. Michael Rotter

[edit]

Good afternoon Snowman304. I have added as many secondary sources as are available to the draft article on Prof. Michael Rotter (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Michael_Rotter). It is not a reasonable comment to dismiss Prof. Rotter's accomplishments by saying that the text 'reads like a CV' - there are other accepted Wikipedia articles which read even more like CVs (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonathan_Spencer and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teng_Jin-guang) and have even shorter reference lists. The accomplishments are real, certainly noteworthy and in my view documented. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AJSadowski (talkcontribs) 18:05, 27 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Chicago Meetup for Wikidata Day

[edit]

Hello! This is User:Luiysia (IRL name is Kelly). My main interests are fashion, music, literature, and history. I am fairly new to Wikipedia editing and I found that there has been very little activity from the Chicago Wikipedia user group since 2020.

I'd like to host a casual meetup in Chicago to celebrate Wikidata Day on Saturday, October 26.

Proposed location is Engine Coffee in the Wicker Park/West Town area, at 11AM.

Here is the official meetup page, where you can add yourself as an attendee.

(If you would prefer not to see messages like this, go ahead and take yourself off this list.)

Hope to see you all there!

Your submission at Articles for creation: St. Henry Cemetery has been accepted

[edit]
St. Henry Cemetery, which you submitted to Articles for creation, has been created.

Congratulations, and thank you for helping expand the scope of Wikipedia! We hope you will continue making quality contributions.

The article has been assessed as Stub-Class, which is recorded on its talk page. It is commonplace for new articles to start out as stubs and then attain higher grades as they develop over time. You may like to take a look at the grading scheme to see how you can improve the article.

Since you have made at least 10 edits over more than four days, you can now create articles yourself without posting a request. However, you may continue submitting work to Articles for creation if you prefer.

If you have any questions, you are welcome to ask at the help desk. Once you have made at least 10 edits and had an account for at least four days, you will have the option to create articles yourself without posting a request to Articles for creation.

If you would like to help us improve this process, please consider leaving us some feedback.

Thanks again, and happy editing!

Hi, The Tree will be formatted as required but can your mark the point where more citations are needed. Just (Citation Needed) beside the points and I will do the rest. Fuzayl1 (talk) 13:06, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

AfC declines

[edit]

Hi there, thanks so much for volunteering to help out with the AfC backlog! I've resubmitted and accepted a draft you declined, Truncated Triangular Pyramid Number. We're not looking for perfection, just whether something is totally unsuitable or not and whether it would survive a deletion discussion. When you're looking at a draft of something that looks notable but has unreferenced bits, you can simply accept it (add maintenance tags if you like), or remove the unclearly sourced content if it's particularly problematic. Declining drafts that are mostly fine confuses and frustrates newbies, and once the articles are in mainspace they're more likely to get help from other more experienced editors, so the aim here is to move to mainspace unless they're not notable or a total disaster. -- asilvering (talk) 16:03, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Whoops, I aimed my standards a little too high. I definitely wasn't looking at it through the eyes of a newbie. Thanks for letting me know! Snowman304|talk 23:54, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to participate in a research

[edit]

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

Request on 21:48:21, 23 October 2024 for assistance on AfC submission by MyIP19216811

[edit]

MyIP19216811 (talk) 21:48, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! So he was head of the ISI's Afghan bureau. That's the only cited fact in this stub. What did he do during that time? The CIA and the Saudis got involved, but what did he (and/or the ISI) do?
Why is his book notable? Anybody can write a book. Is it about what he did? Is it a retrospective on the war? Has anyone written a review on it in an academic journal or other reviewed source? Snowman304|talk 00:19, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The Yousaf is was verified by three separate credible sources as the ISI lead person in one of the most significant organizations involved in a conflict whose consequences are ongoing. His two books are cited in other Wikipedia articles. I realize that the article I created was rather short but at the risk of whataboutism I have seen articles with fewer citations for less notable people.

Request on 04:10:48, 30 October 2024 for assistance on AfC submission by Bitghost (Official)

[edit]

This article is supported by credible references and should be approved. These articles are all reputable and support the fame of this artist.

Bitghost (Official) (talk) 04:10, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

There are exactly zero citations in the "Career" section. There are only two in "Early life". Also, most of the discography is unsourced. The hyperlinked bits of the references mostly seem to be quotes and not the titles of the webpage or article.
In short, this article is not ready for prime time and should stay in draftspace. The citations are currently not enough. The lead section is better sourced than the body, and that's a problem. Snowman304|talk 04:18, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yeshayahu Folman

[edit]

Hello @Snowman304, You have declined my draft and that is following me removing all asked. Please point me to what isnt sourced...? Also, why decline and not ask for changes? I mean, he is worthy and it seems unfair. Thank you, Shahar Navon new (talk) 08:44, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Shahar Navon new It's because basic things like his birthday (as one example) don't have citations. Another editor declined the article in June and there are still citation issues. I agree that he probably should have an article. But this version isn't ready yet. Snowman304|talk 12:55, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much! can you tell me what should be removed? since Yeshayahu was born in 1934, i cant think of a source for that... I searched many articles and i didnt see sources for DOB so if you can point me to what should be removed, I will do it and resubmit. Thank you! Shahar Navon new (talk) 15:18, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Have you been able to find an obituary? Do any of the sources mention an age? If we don't have an exact date or even year, there's Template:Birth based on age as of date. So if you can find something that says he died at 88 in 2022, you could do {{Birth based on age at death|88|2022}} and get 1933 or 1934. You could then use Template:Death date and given age with that same source.
Again, this is only one fact in the article that still needs citation. Snowman304|talk 19:56, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Snowman304 Hello, yes I have the death certificate but its a PDF file, also I dont think it's should be on the net, can I maybe send it to you to see?
As for his death, there are sources such as https://kenes-media.com/%d7%94%d7%90%d7%99%d7%a9-%d7%a9%d7%a9%d7%99%d7%a0%d7%94-%d7%90%d7%aa-%d7%94%d7%9e%d7%93%d7%93-%d7%9c%d7%97%d7%9c%d7%95%d7%a7%d7%aa-%d7%9e%d7%a2%d7%a0%d7%a7%d7%99-%d7%9e%d7%97%d7%a7%d7%a8/ saying "Professor Isaiah Pullman died in the first week of this month and is 88 years old." is that enough? Shahar Navon new (talk) 11:45, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Snowman304, i'm assuming you didnt get around to check so I thought it's a good idea to pop this back... please have a look at my previous comment. Thanks! Shahar Navon new (talk) 13:20, 30 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I am so sorry but I dont understand how to do what you wrote... should i just resubmit or what should I do now? Shahar Navon new (talk) 13:25, 30 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Draft: Roy William Harris

[edit]

Hello @snowman304, you rejected my draft on Will Harris https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Roy_William_Harris a few days ago (on the basis of an empty section and it being light on references). I do not disagree with your assessment and your feedback is accurate. I have been frustrated by the paywalls and lack of good research material. Will Harris was really big news 25 years ago in the energy industry. He is notable for a $200 million fraud on Chase Bank (back when this was one of the biggest financial crimes ever committed) and was also the first RICO-type legal case against a corporation. In RICO cases, they take away all of your financial resources upfront. He basically ended up with a public defender/pro bono lawyer and was found guilty to all sorts of things that would probably not be today. I would hope that more resources will be available in the future with ExCo privileges. It would be really helpful to get a few other editors involved in review as there are things that I am limited in knowing about Will Harris from the outside looking in. Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated. The best sources that I have are on old Bloomberg article and the text of a couple of his appeals to his sentencing. Apparently, a lawyer worked on his case (pro-bono again) for like a decade. Refineryguycanada (talk) 15:12, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Anthropophage page

[edit]

Undoing your revert. The page is the literal source that Anthropophagi is being cited. I simply made a more usable and precise citation that links to the archived (public domain) digital copy. See source below my citation. RCSCott91 (talk) 19:22, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I was a little hasty in my reversion, and I'm sure that was annoying. The Internet Archive's search functions are still a bit wonky (likely due to the hacks and such), and I missed it when reading. One thing that will help in the future is, when citing an encyclopedia, using Template:Cite encyclopedia. That way you can include both the entry (under |title=) and the encyclopedia (under |encyclopedia=). Snowman304|talk 19:48, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't blame you, there is a ton of vandalism and bad edits, with limited time; friendly fire happens. Yes, I'm so happy the archive is finally back up, stupid people doing stupid things.
Thank you for that info. I wasn't even thinking of cyclopaedia like that when it is literally one of the first modern encyclopedias. RCSCott91 (talk) 00:37, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Orville Peck: references

[edit]

Dear Snowman304: What an impressive list of contributions you have! Thank you for being a veteran Wikipedian. Regarding your comment "That's not how we do references" => do you think, you would make a better contribution to Wikipedia and Wiki-community in general, if you point out to a description of "how we do references"? Or better yet, fix these references yourself- i.e. doing an actual work rather the destroying the contributions of others, who spent time on doing actual work?

Also, despite your numerous contributions, it seems, that you misunderstand how collaboration on Wikipedia WP:CO works. My ecological function as a https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiDragon is to "vomit up the universe" (i.e. to create the first draft of an article or to add substantial new features to an exiting article). Afterwards, other wikifauna, such as [[1]] and [[2]] take over. If you do not want to work yourself, please mark the section, that needs improvement with specific instructions for wiki-gnomes. Respectfully, you favorite WikiDragon :)Walter Tau (talk) 22:58, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
