A tag has been placed on User:Ruthgrace requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section U5 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to consist of writings, information, discussions, and/or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals. Please note that Wikipedia is not a free web hosting service. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Graywalls (talk) 05:15, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Ruthgrace: Don't sweat this too much. Your user page is clearly not in violation of U5. You have plenty of edits other than to your user page, and it's far from unusual for a person to link to their personal interests or creative work from the user page (tho officially it's an iffy area). This is just bullying from a bad-faith editor: Graywalls is an anti-homeless zealot who spends a bizarre amount of energy going after homeless organisations on Wikipedia. (Check out their edit history.) They are coming after you solely because your page says you are interning at the Coalition on Homelessness. That said, given that you're at the COH and that you're editing pages related to homelessness, you run the risk of violating the conflict of interest policy. You should really check out WP:COI before making any further edits on homelessness-related issues. Take care! I hope that most of your interactions on Wikipedia are more pleasant than this one. Pathawi (talk) 23:22, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Pathawi:, really appreciate the reassurance. I took a look at the WP:COI, and I wanted to note for the record:
  • My internship with the CoH is unpaid
  • I'm not editing about CoH, I'm editing about Homelessness. I would hope that being involved in the field wouldn't disallow someone to edit Wikipedia, as most subject matter experts would be involved in the field.
Thanks again,
Ruthgrace (talk) 19:46, 12 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't mean that as in any way a warning or chastisement: Just a heads up about a potential risk. Pathawi (talk) 20:51, 12 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Pathawi:, perhaps you should disclose your relationship with the organization that is in question here. A user page isn't intended to be like a resume with primary intentions of showcasing non-wikipedia related activities. Secondly, When one is affiliated with an organization and their edits consist of sourcing things that is closely related to the organization which they're affiliated with, that is a concern. Your allegations borders on violating WP:NPA. Graywalls (talk) 07:14, 14 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Your long-standing pattern of behaviour in interactions with users you even think have relationships with homeless organisations certainly falls under WP:HOUND. Tons of users have links to personal writings on their User pages. But you're going after this user for a reason, which has nothing to do with your concern for the purity of user pages. You've sought at least twice to have the user page deleted with no consideration of WP:NOBAN or WP:DELETEOTHER on absolutely bollocks grounds. Glass houses, friend. Pathawi (talk) 13:11, 14 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Actually I address promotionalism issues on different groups/companies. Notable example was Anti-Defamation League. When I see such a pattern, I certainly look at the user's page. This page was on my watch list as I've worked on it before and new changes occur, and I go back and review. Graywalls (talk) 14:06, 14 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Graywalls. Wikipedia is written by people who have a wide diversity of opinions, but we try hard to make sure articles have a neutral point of view. Your recent edit to Homelessness seemed less than neutral and has been removed. If you think this was a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. I understand from participation with another user that your internship with Coalition of Homelessness is unpaid. I also understand that WRAP is closely associated with the corporation that you intern for. The introduction of contents referencing is a COI concern. This specifically Anderson, M., Boden, P., Callahan-Kapoor, M., Dahmann, N., Dennison, B., Friedenback, J., ... & Winterborn, B. (2010). Without Housing: Decades of Federal Housing Cutbacks, Massive Homelessness, and Policy Failures. https://wraphome.org//wp-content/uploads/2008/09/WRAPWithoutHousingfederalcutbacks2007report.pdf'' Graywalls (talk) 07:09, 14 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Graywalls, thank you for your note. I don't consider myself affiliated with WRAP, however I appreciate that their reports are self published, and maybe not the best thing to cite. I think the point that I was trying to make is important for historical context, so I've added it back in, this time citing the actual government budget instead of the WRAP report. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Homelessness&type=revision&diff=1055273217&oldid=1055093720 Ruthgrace (talk) 22:49, 14 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Control copyright icon Hello Ruthgrace! Your additions to Cotton have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 15:52, 4 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Diannaa for letting me know! I wasn't aware of this and will try the edit again without quoting. Ruthgrace (talk) 16:18, 4 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Merry Christmas Ruthgrace

[edit]
Merry Christmas to you too, WILDSTAR! I am actually spending my Christmas in Ontario with family, which is why I felt it so fitting to read about Cornwall Electric. :) Appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, and hope you get some time to relax with loved ones this holiday season. Ruthgrace (talk) 04:07, 22 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Did You Know - Cornwall Electric

[edit]

Ruthgrace, I wanted to let you know (no pun intended) that Cornwall Electric is scheduled to appear in the Did You Know section of Wikipedia's Main Page on January 5th at 12:00 UTC. The hook for Did You Know... that during the January 1998 North American ice storm, an employee at Cornwall Electric used a bow and arrow to provide power to a city? was inspired by the closing comments you made during the article's GAR... about the employee saving the day with his bow and arrow. It's actually incredible and hard to believe that 24 years have already come to pass since that event!

P.S. Knowing that the lights probably stayed on, I hope your time in Ontario with your family during the holidays was relaxing and very enjoyable! :-) All the best! — WILDSTARTALK 14:50, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, that's fantastic!! Congratulations! Actually the power did go out due to high winds during my trip, but it was only for a few hours -- very impressive considering the number of trees that fell down. We got to take out the candles, and the kids had a blast. We aren't with Cornwall Electric, unfortunately, but it did remind me of your article, and how infrastructure workers are so important!
