Adding images

[edit]

When adding images, please make sure you do not add images that are already in the article, as you did here. Thanks. — Ingenuity (talk • contribs) 14:16, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Again, please make sure that you are only adding images to articles that do not already have images. — Ingenuity (talk • contribs) 14:47, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Two more things.
1) Wikipedia has a policy of providing text captions for images, to indicate to readers what the images show and how they are relevant to the articles they are in. Your captionless images leave readers wondering about these questions.
2) Please do not put fan art at the top or in the infobox of any article unless there is a clear consensus that the specific work in question is actually acceptable on Wikipedia. Normally fan art is unacceptable in these positions.
All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 05:18, 19 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Fontanelli

[edit]

Hi Goodymeraj - thank you for adding all those images! Appreciate the work. I removed one (Alfonso II d'Este is a different person from Alfonso Fontanelli). All the best, and welcome to Wikipedia. :) Antandrus (talk) 23:20, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Mirrors

[edit]

Information icon Thanks for contributing to the article Joseph Ahaneku. However, one of Wikipedia's core policies is that material must be verifiable and attributed to reliable sources. You have recently used citations which copied, or mirrored, material from Wikipedia. This leads to a circular reference and is not acceptable. Most mirrors are clearly labeled as such, but some are in violation of our license and do not provide the correct attribution. Please help by adding alternate sources to the article you edited! Speedy deletion nomination of Main article on global diseases

[edit]

Hello Goodymeraj,

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Hughesdarren, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I have tagged an article that you started, Main article on global diseases, for deletion, because there's already a page about that topic at Pandemic. Please don't be discouraged; we appreciate your effort in creating new articles. To avoid this in the future, consider using the search function to find pages that already cover what you want to write about.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top. If the page is already deleted by the time you come across this message and you wish to retrieve the deleted material, please contact the deleting administrator.

For any further query, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Hughesdarren}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in Diagonal pliers, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Please follow MOS:ORDER when adding images to articles. They should not go above the short description and maintenance templates. Belbury (talk) 10:21, 7 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon This is your only warning; if you add an inappropriate image to Wikipedia again, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. Fan art in lead or infoboxes on WikiProject Middle-earth

[edit]

Please note that we don't use fan art in lead or infoboxes on WikiProject Middle-earth. No need to worry, I've removed all the specimens you inserted, but for future reference, it's something that isn't acceptable on any Middle-earth article. I understand there's the excitement of a project to decorate articles with images, but this project is well-illustrated already, and a wealth of available images has already been used. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 11:10, 7 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Note: I see that I mentioned something very similar a year ago. Continuing to ignore the rules after the matter has been brought to your attention could be taken to be disruptive editing, so it'd be appreciated if you'd stop. Chiswick Chap (talk) 11:26, 7 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you haven't already tracked down the hashtags, it's because they can win a prize from MetaWiki for adding more images than anyone else, in July and August each year. Belbury (talk) 11:40, 7 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I did go looking for it. Same as last year, it encourages random additions without any regard for actual benefit to the articles involved. Chiswick Chap (talk) 13:16, 7 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Unrelated images

[edit]

You added a portrait of John von Neummann to Imperative programming, captioned "Imperative programming". Von Neummann is not mentioned anywhere in the article text.

If you're using a bot or search query to find images to add to articles, please double check that they are relevant to the text before adding them.

And again, please follow MOS:ORDER in image placement, images do not go above the short description. Belbury (talk) 11:21, 7 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Well, that's the third warning on image insertion that this editor has received this month. They ignored similar warnings last year too. Chiswick Chap (talk) 11:27, 7 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Chiswick Chap Looks like they’re adamant. I’ve issued a level 4im warning in this regard, after several warnings ignored. Feel free to report to AIV if continued. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 19:13, 7 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Belbury Follow-up ping too. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 19:13, 7 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it doesn't look good and they're doing it in multiple areas. Chiswick Chap (talk) 19:14, 7 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just had to revert another unrelated image at Cold reading added on july 30. As above, you need to carefully check images' relevance before adding.Dialectric (talk) 21:31, 31 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And just removed another that had added an incorrect mushroom image. Goodymeraj, stop adding images, and please explain your recent behavior here or I will have to open a Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents item to prevent you from adding more disruptive images.Dialectric (talk) 02:47, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Their other edits from the past couple of days have included adding an image of publisher Georg Andreas Reimer as composer Georg Andreas Sorge and adding a still of Richard Widmark in a Mutz Greenbaum film to Mutz Greenbaum's article as a picture of Greenbaum. That's a 5-in-11 revert ratio on their recent image additions. I've gone ahead and raised an ANI thread, this needs to stop. Belbury (talk) 08:49, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Disqualification from the WPWP

[edit]

Hi Goodymeraj, I am Reading Beans, the campaign coordinator of the m:Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos 2024 . You have been disqualified from participating in the Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos 2024 due to disruptive editing and failure to respond to the concerns raised by numerous editors, as well as to change your behavior. Images: please do not add user-generated calligraphy.

[edit]

Please do not add user-generated calligraphy, per MOS:CALLIGRAPHY. Not sure why you chose to reinstate it after I reverted, but please consider that edit warring will lead to your account getting blocked. Also see this previous discussion of your behavior. Thanks for taking this into account, ☿ Apaugasma (talk ) 14:13, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Good evening. Please i don't know the one that is user- generated calligraphy. I sincerely apologize for seeming adamant to all the warnings, but I need help. How am I to upload? What should I do and what should I not do? I am lost please. Direct me. Thank you Goodymeraj (talk) 16:45, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for finally responding to someone trying to talk with you. First and foremost, you must stop adding images to articles for the time being until we can untangle all this mess and you gain an understanding of how to properly find and apply appropriate images to articles. You have been adding images at a rather high rate of speed; 50 in the last few hours alone. 9 of those have been reverted. That's a rather high error rate. If you persist in adding images to articles despite all the warnings above this thread, despite the conversation here in this thread, I will in definitely block you until you agree to stop adding images and begin learning how to properly do this. I hope I've been clear. If I haven't been clear, ask for clarification. Continuing as you have been is not an option. Got it? --Hammersoft (talk) 17:26, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much. But I still need clarity. Before I upload any image, I always confirm on Wikidata if the image is the appropriate one for the article. It is exactly what I see on wikidata that I upload. If that too is wrong, what other step should I take to ensure appropriateness? Goodymeraj (talk) 18:59, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have stopped uploading any images for now. Goodymeraj (talk) 19:01, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Given that your error rate is in the 20% range, it's obvious you are making too many errors with the methods you are using. Would you please explain this edit, where you inserted an image of a hockey player onto a biography of a football player from South Sudan, which I doubt has any hockey players at all? --Hammersoft (talk) 20:47, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's my fault. I apologize. Didn't read the profile well Goodymeraj (talk) 20:56, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can confirm that this was an erroneous Wikidata image for Isaac Mattia (I've removed it), and presumably as a direct result of that it was also the first Commons image result for Isaac Mattia. Checking a Commons result against exactly the same image on Wikidata is no check at all; where a Wikidata user has made a mistake, you're just checking that mistake against itself.
You need to actually move out into Google Images or something and try to find other pictures of the subject, if you don't know what they look like. Belbury (talk) 21:13, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Your claims to be innocently unaware of what you have done wrong are, to put it politely, disingenuous. You have repeatedly, goodness knows how many times, added images to articles without making any serious attempt to check whether they are relevant, purely in order to increase your count in a grossly misconceived "competition", and you know it. I will give just two examples out of many, not to inform you, as you already know what you have done, but to put this on record in the history of your talk page in case you ever do the same again, and your activity needs to be reviewed again in the future. (1) You added the image File:FC Dynamo Kyiv 2011.jpg to the article Dynamo Fredericks, despite the fact that there is absolutely no connection to the subject of the article except that it relates to football and contains the word "Dynamo". (2) In this edit you added an image relating to a use of the term "cold reading" to an article about a completely unrelated meaning of "cold reading". A couple of careless mistakes which anyone could have made in an off moment? Perhaps yes, if they were isolated occurrences, but, as you know, they aren't; you have countless times added images to articles which anyone who spent 15 seconds checking would have known were unsuitable, but you didn't spend 15 seconds checking, because you didn't care, as you were interested only in increasing your image posting count, irrespective of whether you were improving the articles in question. Do the same again and you are likely to be blocked indefinitely. JBW (talk) 23:50, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@JBW, thank you to installing the block but can it be extended to atleast a month till our “grossly misconceived competition” is over? Best, Reading Beans 23:55, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think that's necessary due to the competition. You've already disqualified them from the competition, so blocking them for a month wouldn't help that. Further, that would be punitive, not preventative, and per WP:NOPUNISH, we don't do that. --Hammersoft (talk) 01:23, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This user would continue their sporadic editing once the block expires and blocking them for a month would act as a preventive measure. Let’s see how it all pans out after a week though. Best, Reading Beans 07:51, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Blocking them for a month is not cool enough, perhaps sharing links to how they can better improve themselves work fine. Best! Tesleemah (talk) 04:52, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Tesleemah, can you see the warnings from 2023 till date? Including on Meta where TCells gave them instructions on how to go about it? Best, Reading Beans 07:53, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I contacted them already to stay away till they learn how to go about it. No problem at all! Tesleemah (talk) 08:49, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Reading Beans, Hammersoft, and Tesleemah: First of all, I apologise for "grossly misconceived", which was, I suppose, an overreaction to incidents such as this. As for extending the block, I don't think there would be any justification for that. Goodymeraj has failed to get the message from being warned, but we should hope that being blocked for a short time will get them to take notice at last and stop the unacceptable editing, and if so there's no reason why they shouldn't be allowed to continue with other editing. In fact I think a shorter block might well have been enough. Goodymeraj, if you undertake not to add any images to articles for at least a week, and after that to be careful to avoid the problems you have had in the past, I will be happy to remove the block, or any other administrator is welcome to do so. (However, whether you take up that offer or not, any return to the same kind of thing will be likely to lead to a block for a longer time, with much less likelihood of being unblocked.) JBW (talk) 12:19, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Alright thank you, they should have seen it now Tesleemah (talk) 12:30, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My inclination is to make the block indefinite if they resume the same sort of problematic behaviors after the block expires. --Hammersoft (talk) 12:32, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This user may be socking as Special:Contributions/Chizoba2 the edits, errors, and similar subject areas show significant overlap. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dialectric (talkcontribs)
Yep, appears to be the case. I am extending the block on this account to indefinite for attempting to evade their block. --Hammersoft (talk) 14:45, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Good morning. I, Goodymeraj undertake that I won't add any images to articles for at least a week, and after that, I'll be careful to avoid the problems I have had before. Once again, I sincerely apologize for the errors of the past. Goodymeraj (talk) 02:09, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You have been blocked temporarily from editing for persistently adding totally inappropriate images to articles, continuing despite having had the problems drawn to your attention. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please review Wikipedia's guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  JBW (talk) 17:36, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for abusing multiple accounts and continuing the same pattern of edits using your sock that got this account blocked in the first place. Note that multiple accounts are allowed, but not for illegitimate reasons, and any contributions made while evading blocks or bans may be reverted or deleted. If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please review Wikipedia's guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} --Hammersoft (talk) 15:02, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I realize that an indefinite block is a serious upgrade to the 1 week block, where we usually step blocks up before going to indefinite. In this particular case, I did so because the same behavior continued while using the Chizoba2 sockpuppet, even as you were asserting you were stopping the addition of images. There's an absolute refusal to get the point and to amend the behavior. There is no reason to trust that you will stop this behavior and other destructive behaviors moving forward. Such intractability is incompatible with working in a group editing environment such as this project. You are welcome to plead your case by submitting an unblock request. --Hammersoft (talk) 15:10, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

Please, the user [User: Chizoba2] is an entirely different user and not me. I am a male, she's a female. I have only one account and I never attempted using a different account for edits. Please reconsider and remove the block on my account. Once again, I am truly very sorry for my unconstructive edits of the past, promising that it would never happen again. Thank you so much Goodymeraj (talk) 02:17, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

Even if that's true(and I'm not saying it is), that doesn't address the other problematic behavior. 331dot (talk) 08:07, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

There is some question as to whether Chizoba2 and Goodymeraj are sockpuppets of each other or meatpuppets of each other. Personally, I don't care. The behavior is destructive, regardless. It needed to stop. It has stopped. If another administrator wishes to unblock this account and Chizoba2, they may do so without my input. --Hammersoft (talk) 12:58, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The question raised here is a little broader than that; it's whether they are sockpuppets, meatpuppets or two WPWP entrants who are following the same set of competition instructions. That third possibility is troublingly reminiscent of meatpuppetry in practice (engages in the same behavior as another user in the same context, and who appears to be editing Wikipedia solely for that purpose), but is not what is usually understood by the term. --Belbury (talk) 13:40, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • OK, Goodymeraj, please answer the following question. What is the connection between you and Chizoba2? JBW (talk) 22:30, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Good morning. Chizoba2 is an entirely different user. The only connection between she and I is that we are members of the same network, Anambra Network, and we are on the same contest, WPWP. Maybe she was editing within the same IP range as I. Nothing else is connecting us please. I don't have access to her account as well as she doesn't have to mine. Goodymeraj (talk) 09:41, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you don't have any connection to the person, how do you know that it's "she"? JBW (talk) 23:17, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Good morning
I said, the only connection between she and I is that we are members of the same Wiki network, Anambra Network. That's how I know about the she Goodymeraj (talk) 03:47, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for clarifying that. Personally I am totally convinced that you are not the same person as Chizoba2, and I think the evidence of supposed meatpuppetry can easily be due to perfectly legitimate connections, such as both participating in the same competition, with the same instructions. Hammersoft disagrees, but has said that they will leave me to decide. I shall therefore restore the original block, which is due to expire in a little under 22 hours from now. JBW (talk) 19:46, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much. I'm grateful Goodymeraj (talk) 00:30, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
