Belloc's "The Catholic Sun"
[edit]I believe you edited the Hilaire Belloc page with the addition of a quote from the poem "The Catholic Sun" on 15 Dec 2008. I have not been able to find a source for that widely quoted poem. It's not in the Duckworth 1970 H. Belloc: Complete Verse and I wondered if you did have a firm attribution for "The Catholic Sun." Thanks. JohnGHissong (talk) 09:13, 29 May 2016 (UTC)
Question
[edit]Hello Academic Challenger, I found out that you are one of the English Wikipedia Administratos and I've decided to write to you about one irritant user, it's User:Dag13. Please visit his page and review it, I'm really interesting if it is forbidden or not to behave like him. I don't know maybe I also violated some rules, but maybe. If you found out, tell me about them I'll be pleased, I am not well in English Wikipedia rules, but I think what he does it's excessive and trespass. Thank you. --g. balaxaZeႫ 19:03, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

[edit]Hey, seeing as you are an active English Wikipedia Administrator, I was wondering if there was anyway you could share with me the contents of a deleted Wikipedia page since only admins & a few others have that ability. Please let me know if this would be possible! Thanks. --LSUkingfish (talk) 09:02, 11 February 2014 (UTC)
You're back!?
[edit]Hi Academic Challenger. You probably don't remember me; it has been awhile. I've been updating my userspace and I still see the notice you left from when you protected it for me many years ago. I was swinging by and was pleasantly surprised to see some recent editing activity. Does this mean you're back? Mkdwtalk 06:35, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
Access to deleted page
[edit]Hi, I am a Ph.D. student and I am doing research on Wikipedia Vandalism and vandalism in general. Is there a way to access the following page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Slashdot_trolls. It shows that you have deleted the page. Also, is there a way to get all the wikipedia users who are considered to be vandals? Is there a list anywhere? Thanks Srijan (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Srijankedia) 24 Feb 2014.
Second account
[edit]I created a account on Wikiquote and brought it over here on accident. It is called Dedicator20. It was done on complete accident and I assure you that I did not intend to create a sock puppet. I am telling you this because I do not want this matter to be guessed or otherwise assumed by any persons, so I am coming right out and admitting the mistake. [edit]Hi Academic Challenger! As a Steward I'm involved in the upcoming unification of all accounts organized by the Wikimedia Foundation (see m:Single User Login finalisation announcement). By looking at your your account, I realized that you don't have a global account yet. In order to secure your name, I recommend you to create such account on your own by submitting your password on Special:MergeAccount and unifying your local accounts. My Deleted Article
[edit]Hello Academic_Challenger,
I am new to Wikipedia (I just created an account today.) I will be going over the rules to write the article properly etc... and will be redacting the page you deleted. You deleted the page on grounds of Copyright infringement. However, I own the Copyright. I'll be back to read over how to write my first article and go from there. Thanks for your help.

Existing Promotional Pages
[edit]How are you Academic_Challenger? I hope all is well. Thank you for all that you do to keep this community in good standing. Basically, I am puzzled on some other articles that weren't deleted. I actually had a recent article being removed due to issue with promotion and such but I have also seen others who are doing the same but they're still visible and active. I am just wondering if there is some kind of a point system or level of the account registered or something like that to possibly avail the same kind of privilege? I know this is really not a good place to promote or something but I don't think anyone will just post an article here in Wikipedia that is not helpful. I am sure the contents suggested/submitted are, in one way or another, beneficial if not to everyone but at least, I'm sure, 30 people out of the 100 will find it significant. Lastly, I hope it is possible to bring back the page I created that was just removed. :) If it's not, I would be very careful next time and hopefully my article will be approved. This is it for now. Thanks again and take care. --SaryaS90 (talk) 10:16, 15 April 2015 (UTC)
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Extended confirmed protection
[edit]Hello, Academic Challenger. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.
Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.
In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:
- Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
- A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.
Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:47, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins
[edit]Hello,
Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers
[edit]Hi Academic Challenger.
A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.
It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.
If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:46, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

Protection of Hats Off Productions...
[edit]....sorry to drop in here, but actually I do not understand why you protected the article; we had two instances of vandalism today, and no edits at all to the article since July 5th before that. Don't get me wrong, but I really see no case for protection...unless there is something I do not see? Cheers and happy editing. Lectonar (talk) 19:47, 25 July 2017 (UTC)
- Both that article and Badi Dooooor Se Aaye Hai have been the targets of a rather devout fan who fervently believes the show will continue. This has been going on for quite a few months. When they first started, I did some basic research (I'm not from India and not familiar with the show) and was able to find several mentions that the show was not restarting, no plans to restart and some obstacles existed. The IP bounces across multiple wide ranges, so a range-block isn't a possibility. Normally I just revert and am done with it, but when the IP edits more frequently, semi-protection is much easier on me and often stops them for a decent amount of time. I'll respect your decision on this, but will request again in a few days if they persist. Ravensfire (talk) 20:31, 25 July 2017 (UTC)
- I'd say pending-changes protection should actually do the trick. Persistent the disruption might be....but yes, in olden times I would have said "just watchlist and revert", and not protected. I still like the fact that Wikipedia is the "Encyclopedia that everyone can edit"; if not, we could just semi-protect all the pages (which is actually a perennial proposal), and be done with it. In this case, it seems a bit like shooting with cannon on sparrows. Anyway, it just caught my eye because I had just denied another RFP-request by User:Ravensfire. I will not insist on any change, though. Cheers everyone. Lectonar (talk) 07:07, 26 July 2017 (UTC)

This survey will be integral to gathering information about how this noticeboard works - which problems it deals with well, and which problems it struggles with.
The survey should take 10-20 minutes to answer, and your individual responses will not be made public. The survey is delivered through Google Forms. [edit]Why are you closing AFD discussions as delete before the 7-day voting period is up? WP:CLOSEAFD says A deletion discussion should normally be allowed to run for seven full days (168 hours).

Why judging without defending?
[edit]Hi Academic Challenger,
May I know why Fawzal Number has been delete without giving me chance and time to defend it? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Fawzal_number
Please enlighten me on which part it is not following the guideline? All of the reason given for deletion was not convincing. The work has been peer-reviewed by the professionals namely: (1) Three academic reviewers from the IEEE community. They have a strict rule in publication yet has a high impact factor. (2) Three reviewers from Applied Thermal Engineering coming from the various background. (3) The work has been defended in front of experts in flow physics and electrical machine design. Additionally, this work was supervised by four academicians and one industry expert. The four academician has and expertise in: electrical machine, computational fluid dynamic and vehicle dynamic while the industry expert is the founder of YASA topology.
If you look at other dimensionless numbers, you can apply the same comment given by people who vote for my deletion (i.e: reliable source coverage to demonstrate notability User:PohranicniStraze, Insufficient uptake in the literature User:Elmidae, Not enough coverage User:Kraose) 1) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blake_number 2) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chandrasekhar_number I am not saying that these two dimensionless numbers are not valid, but my point is, I wish you could have some justice and allow for the room of discussion before making a judgement.
I am waiting for your reply. Thank you. Fawzala (talk) 16:55, 7 December 2018 (UTC)

Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)
[edit]ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.
Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.
We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.
For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:03, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

Status of Republic of Artsakh
[edit]Hello. In my opinion, the status of the unrecognized Republic of Artsakh article is incorrect. If the state does not recognize it, the country to which it belongs must also be written in its status. For example, unrecognized Abkhazia, South Ossetia, and Transnistria are not like Arsakh in the article. Arsakh's status was written by three non-UN member states. Sorry, is this important? Does it matter? However, they are unrecognized separatist organizations. Even four countries have recognized the independence of those separatist organizations. But Arsakh was not recognized by any state. Excuse me, why isn't the Republic of Artsakh article the same as the 3 unrecognized states article? Don't you think this is a double standard? [edit]Dear Academic Challenger, Thank you for your message and your concern about Marcus Sheridan. I left the following response on my own "talk" page, but I'm not sure if I was supposed to leave it on your page as well, so I'm taking the liberty of doing so. I was not compensated directly or indirectly to create this page. Instead, I am trying to become an active contributor here, and I am starting with people and organizations I know best. Please let me know what I can do to set things right. Thanks so much. Uxh76 (talk) 21:54, 19 April 2021 (UTC)
potential threat.
[edit]I am here to give you a heads up on an potential threat, on the article for Omar Mateen there was a pending revision by the IP address 38.142.176.26 stating this: "(OPENLY DEGRADING AN AMERICAN CITIZEN OF MUSLIM FAITH BY STATING HOMESEXUAL TENDENCIES AND ACTS, COMPLETELY UNTRUE AND PATHETIC. CHANGE THIS IMMEDIATELY OR I WILL ATTACK WIKI AND DELETE ALL FILES.)". I am sure that this threat by the user is empty but I thought that I should go ahead and alert an admin either way just incase. [edit]Administrators will no longer be autopatrolled
[edit]A recently closed Request for Comment (RFC) reached consensus to remove Autopatrolled from the administrator user group. You may, similarly as with Edit Filter Manager, choose to self-assign this permission to yourself. This will be implemented the week of December 13th, but if you wish to self-assign you may do so now. To find out when the change has gone live or if you have any questions please visit the Administrator's Noticeboard. 20:05, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
How we will see unregistered users
[edit]Hi!
You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.
When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.
Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.
If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.
We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.
Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

New administrator activity requirement
[edit]The administrator policy has been updated with new activity requirements following a successful Request for Comment.
Beginning January 1, 2023, administrators who meet one or both of the following criteria may be desysopped for inactivity if they have:
- Made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least a 12-month period OR
- Made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period
Administrators at risk for being desysopped under these criteria will continue to be notified ahead of time. Thank you for your continued work.

Dear Skylar hello hello, long time no talk, hope all is great
[edit]Hello hello there Skylar - long time no talk - just saw a Facebook messenger pop-up that you were active right now; how is your new position or job going? We miss you on the Facebook Messenger / S.D. or San Diego or so-Cal wiki messenger instant message group. Hope all is well with you. I think we're going to try to start up having a once-monthly / slash / every month, 40 or 42 minutes Zoom online video chat to catch up about all things related to Wikipedia or wikimedia or wiki in general, and I would love for you to be a part of those; we're probably going to have it on a Saturday or a Sunday at some point - would you like to be invited if I hear about it? Again hope all is great with you. -From Peter {a.k.a. Vid2vid (talk | contribs)} 18:51, 20 April 2022 (UTC)

The article Jorge Briz Abularach has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.
If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 00:49, 29 March 2023 (UTC)

DYK for Kiro Gligorov
[edit]On 10 May 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Kiro Gligorov, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that under the rule of the first Macedonian president, Kiro Gligorov (pictured), the Republic of Macedonia was the only state that seceded from Yugoslavia peacefully? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Kiro Gligorov. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Kiro Gligorov), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

The article Einosuke Akiya has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
unknown person, useless page
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 11 July 2024 (UTC)

Invitation to participate in a research
[edit]Hello,
The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.
You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.
The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .
Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.
Kind Regards,
BGerdemann (WMF) (talk) 19:21, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
I'm participating in an Unreferenced articles November 2024 drive and came across Salim Ben Ali which you created in 2006. I couldn't find any sources from a Google search, Proquest, newspaper archives and was about to put a notability tag on it since the position seems minor when I dug a little further and saw that similar pages for List of prime ministers of the Comoros have been created, none of which appears to have a WP:RS. There may be something in French sources but I wouldn't be able to find those easily. Do you have better sourcing for these politicians? I've participated in WP:AFD discussions and this one would be an edge case from my experience but you have more than I do and I'd be curious about your thoughts on this matter and what you think could be done to improve sourcing for these Comoros politician articles.
