UPS?
[edit]Should the line "Such Great Heights" can be heard in the background of a recent UPS campaign. be removed. UPS (United Parcel Service) is a different company than USPS (United States Postal Service). This line is either a mistype or an irrelevant statement. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.95.46.49 (talk) 19:45, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
The line is accurate. I've seen the commercial in question and it was definitely for UPS, the private company.
However, I edited the sentence to say "United Parcel Service" rather than "UPS" to make it clearer that this wasn't a typo. Stylistically, it's probably better to spell out the name instead of using the acronym on first reference.
Does anyone know how this song ended up in a UPS ad even though the band had agreed to help promote the federal postal service? That might better establish the relevance of the UPS ad.
Accordion feedback (talk) 06:31, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I know. It's called a fucking contract. Why the hell is their song being used in a commercial considered "Controversy"? Did they sign an exclusive contract with the USPS? I don't see any mention of that. Are they the first or even the most well known band to allow commercial use of their art? Nope. It's not a controversy fanboys.
Give In
[edit]I the Give In Poster at FYE. I saw that they will E-Release an EP called Alexa in January. I also saw the Randall Thornberry was listed as part of the band. Who is he? I haven't heard of neither Arianna Kills or General Sherman.

Penis Butt?
[edit]Is it only me or does the random phrase "Penis Butt" exist under their discography? Also, it does not appear able to be edited.66.65.57.234 04:41, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
Nevermind, someone edited it. Thanks.66.65.57.234 04:42, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
Phil Collins Cover
[edit]Not sure where to add it to the article, the Postal Service did a cover of the Phil Collins song, Against All Odds for the soundtrack of Wicker Park (movie). --nixie 14:58, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC)
It should be made clear in the Discography secton which CD's were released by The Postal Service, and which are covers for other people's LPs/EPs/singles. --alex
https://www.usps.com/communications/news/press/2005/pr05_040.htm is the only mention of the postal service I can find on the USPS website. --ben
could have sworn 'we will become silhouettes' was in a commercial for the honda civic, not the acura nsx. same company, but different car model. anyone back me up on this? Andy 09:35, 17 December 2005 (UTC)
- Roger that. I'm 100% sure it was the commercial for the Honda Civic model change. (which *did* make it looks more like the Acura RSX, but still...) Fubaz 22:30, 19 January 2006 (UTC)
New album?
[edit]Does anyone know if The Postal Service ever plans to release a new full-length album?
They are.it was in AP--Iandrummer204 (talk) 21:15, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
Can anyone verify the unreferenced update indicating that the new album is moving along, with 7 songs recorded? I haven't been able to find a source for this information, but I hope it's true.
guest vocals
[edit]Does anybody know specifically which songs Jenny Lewis and Jen Wood sang on?
- It's Jenny Lewis on We Will Become Silhouettes, for sure. She's in the video, too. Fubaz 22:16, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
- Jen Wood sings on Nothing Better.
- Jenny Lewis on The District Sleeps Alone Tonight, Sleeping In, Recycled Air, Clark Gable, We Will Become Silhouettes and Brand New Colony, and Jen Wood on Such Great Heights and Nothing Better Abcdemily 01:11, 5 March 2007 (UTC) abcdemily
She's the third member of the band *NOT* a guest vocalist!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.94.184.190 (talk) 09:32, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
USPS
[edit]the link about the USPS selling their CDs is broken--Paraphelion 12:24, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
Modified Postal Service?
[edit]Hrm, I didn't know the iTMS ever had their music down. I did notice in the iTunes video version most of the SkyWorks logos were blured out.--209.209.140.20 02:29, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
"Angel Pumping Gas"
[edit]Is it appropriate to mention that "Angel Pumping Gas", while almost invariably attributed to The Postal Service, is by Lindsay Pool [1]? The song is not currently mentioned on the page, but all over the internet and on p2p networks everyone seems to think this song is by The Postal Service. --211.28.49.160 01:59, 22 April 2006 (UTC)
Genre of Music
[edit]There seems to be some confusion on the genre that The Postal Service is to be considered. Long ago, this page only listed IndieRock. I later changed it to Indie Rock/Electro Pop. I now noticed that it says Indietronic / Indie Pop. The Postal Service's website, Myspace, and page on SubPop records all use the same biography that do not list any specific genre. Sources such at MTV Music, however, describe The Postal Service as "electronica-meets-indie rock." MTV The Postal Service So my question is, shouldn't the genre list Indie Rock instead of Indie Pop? If so, there are obvious Pop beats and rythms found within electronic music that can't be ignored. So woulnd't it eventually revert back to the way I had placed it as "Indie Rock/Electro Pop"?
Hey, not sure if posting this here is right, but why is the band linked, and listed as, an emo band?
Who Wrote Such Great Heights?
[edit]This page claims that Iron & Wine wrote the "original" song... yet the Iron & Wine page claims that the Postal Service were the originators. Anyone know the truth? Nekkensj 02:19, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
- The Postal Service did. I don't have it with me right now, but I'm sure the liner notes in "Give Up" will bear me out.--Hraefen 18:19, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
"all songs programmed by jimmy tamborello (dying songs, bmi), lyrics by benjamin gibbard (fake songs, bmi)"
So yes, The Postal Service did write that song and Iron and Wine's version is the cover.--Chitomcgee 17:37, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
Such Great Heights
[edit]8 out of 10 Trivia items are about Such Great Heights. Does anyone else think a full article on the song is warranted? It's something of an Indie Pop standard.--EndlessVince 00:38, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
Wrong song
[edit]The song "We Will Become Silhouettes" was used in a commercial for the 2006 Honda Civic.
No, it's not. Check for yourself. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Deaglepwnt (talk • contribs) 2:09, 6 November 2006 (UTC).
- Right song. Wrong commercial. see this video Try to do a bit more research next time. --kollision 04:49, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
Link Added
[edit]I just added a link to Ben Gibbard's MOG page, which shows all the music he listens to and has blog posts about a couple of his favorite artists. He just joined MOG and plans to be posting there regularly, so I figured the link would be useful to Postal Service fans. Questions about this, drop me a line... --JessMOG, 11 November 2006
Videography- The District Sleeps Alone Tonight
[edit]It says that there was a video of The District Sleeps Alone Tonight made in (2003) and in (2006), directed by ?. Is there a source that has the director of the (2006) video. Come to think of it, is there a source that has any information about the (2006) video? I have not seen anything about there being a new video of The District Sleeps Alone Tonight. 69.47.216.213 10:00, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
- Seconding, I've never heard or seen this. --68.34.92.104 05:53, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
New Members in the band?
[edit]In the overview it says that there are some additional, new members of the band, but the external link to support this seems rather sketchy....anyone know if this really is true besides www.requestlyrics.com??
Note about band vs. mail
[edit]I wonder if the redirect should be to United States Postal Service instead of to mail. Thoughts? -Mkilly 04:25, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
I agree. I don't see why anyone would search for "The Postal Service" when they're looking for the history of mail as a whole, they'd probably be looking for the USPS. - to tough to die 11:33, 04 February 2007 (UTC)
New information on next album
[edit]I don't know much about updating Wiki stuff, so I just thought I'd throw this link out there for those who want to put it in there. It's got info on the new album. Apparently they are done with 6 songs and have tons of new equipment to play around with. Link: https://www.vh1.com/news/articles/1553375/20070227/dntel.jhtml camknows
Death Cab for Cutie Discography
[edit]I don't think the Death Cap for Cutie discography should be displayed at the bottom. They do share a band member, but they are not the same band.
- There, removed the inappropriate Death Cab template. A Postal Service template needs to be created. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.204.183.50 (talk) 20:02, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Trivia
[edit]shouldn't the trivia about songs be in their their albums (respectfully)? --74.98.128.64 23:51, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
Against All Odds
[edit]The group recorded Against All Odds as a single. I don't know the specifics, but if somone does, it needs to be added to the page.

Second Album on Christmas Day
[edit]That seems like a weird time to release an album to me, seeing as everyone's going to be inside sipping hot chocolate and unwrapping presents... It may be true, but several pieces of false information have appeared on this article in the past with no explanation whatsoever. I'd like a source for the release date.
Youtube links
[edit]Since when has there been a rule about youtube links? Theres millions on wikipedia and this one directly related to the apple computers advert issue that is discussed in the article.--82.17.94.204 (talk) 18:36, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
- There is no blanket ban on YouTube links but there is one on linking to copyright violating material. If the video on YouTube was not uploaded by the copyright holder, the link will be removed. - kollision (talk) 04:23, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
Locations?
[edit]So the article discusses the fact that they mailed the DATs to each other through the USPS, but it doesn't give any indication where they were. Seems like that would be worthwhile information for most collaborations, but especially so for one named for the method of delivery. 98.202.125.252 (talk) 03:44, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
Time for past tense?
[edit]It doesn't look like The Postal Service is coming back to life anytime soon. A recent interview with Gibbard yielded: "Q: Are you considering another Postal Service album?. A: What people don’t understand is the Postal Service is not a band. This was a thing we did for six months in 2001 and 2002. I’m not going to sit here and tell you we’re never going to do another record, but no one should be holding their breath."
So is it time to change "The Postal Service is..." to "The Postal Service was..."? We can always bring it back to present-tense later on, if conditions warrant. But I think it's time to say "was". What do you think?--MikeUMA (talk) 14:27, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
I actually came to this article because I had read this article on Yahoo!, which alluded that The Postal Service would be releasing a new album in 2012. I was hoping there would be more information here about that. Here is the article: https://music.yahoo.com/blogs/heard/madonna-t-swift-nicki-bono-bruce-dre-most-211040975.html BrettxPW (talk) 02:17, 28 December 2011 (UTC)
- That article is awfully light on specifics, just mentioning the Postal Service in a long list of bands that "could bring us some happy future shock in 2012". Here's hoping, but not worth mentioning in the article until more can be confirmed. Meelar (talk) 21:40, 28 December 2011 (UTC)
- Question resolved. They're touring again in 2013, so describing them in the present tense is still appropriate.--MikeUMA (talk) 17:15, 4 February 2013 (UTC)
Jenny Lewis Should Be in the Main Image
[edit]As Lewis is a fully fledged member of the band, the main image representing the two male members as the entirety of the band is, at best, just incorrect. An image with all three members would be preferable. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:8388:7002:6200:2031:A06A:65F7:5FC8 (talk) 21:55, 8 March 2019 (UTC)
Error in "Give Up" section
[edit]The original Gray's Anatomy theme song was "Cosy in the Rocket" by Psapp (beginning Season 1, Episode 2; the pilot had a title card with no theme song), not "Such Great Heights". Perhaps "Such Great Heights" was used in later seasons? If so, can this be corrected? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Verneinung (talk • contribs) 04:25, 16 February 2021 (UTC)
