Discography

[edit]

I am currently working on pages for each album although some album information is hard to find. Perhaps we can work together in putting together a comprehensive discography. Please post any links to album information that we don't have here. Regards, Blackserenity 09:26, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

**All the albums including compilations have been added. I am going to sort them out and present them better on the main page. Will start work on Singles, EPs soon. Blackserenity 11:50, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

      • Singles: Pages for the singles on each album are needed. I will start working on them shortly but if anyone wants to do some go for it. Just remember to stick with the regular Wiki format and set out information like it is on the album pages. Blackserenity 13:41, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Song listing needs work.

[edit]

Looking at this page it looks like there needs to be more detail given about their songs. So far there is some notes about them, but nothing in great detail.

Case in point is Great Southern Land and Don't Believe Anymore.

Now this is a band that still has had an impact on Australia and our culture, so it is a shame that there isn't much info there in the first place.

Edit, it looks like there is more info about Great Southern Land on YouTube then here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mkidP2OUCk --Squato

Misc

[edit]

I seem recall reading they were dubbed "Ultrabruce" at some point, a combination of Ultravox, and Monty Python's ocker Bruce's --Charlie The Wonder Dog 18:22, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Iva06.jpg

[edit]

Image:Iva06.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Pioneers?

[edit]

"They were early pioneers in the use of synthesizers and the Fairlight CMI in popular music."

But were they really, on either topic? This sentence is unsupported by any reference and doesn't stand up to scrutiny, in my opinion.

[edit]

I can't see this holds true. Their first single was released in 1980 and at that time, every New Wave and many post punk bands used synthesizers: Simple Minds, Gary Numan, InXS, Talking Heads, Ultravox ... the list goes on. It's a real stretch to call Icehouse "pioneers" on this point.

[edit]

Again, this appears to be a glib statement with no grounding in fact. When did Icehouse first use a Fairlight CMI? The video for "Taking The Town" shows a Fairlight being played, but that was on their Sidewalk album, released in 1984. Was it used on previous Icehouse recordings?

The Fairlight had been used in popular music much earlier, at least 1982 with Peter Gabriel's Shock The Monkey, and in 1983 with Frankie Goes to Hollywood's Relax. There are probably many more. Again, Icehouse don't appear to be pioneers with the Fairlight either.

I think this sentence should be removed unless it can be backed up by serious references. Msp0 (talk) 10:11, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed major editing

[edit]

Icehouse is an ARIA Hall of Fame inductee, I intend improving this article up to B-class. This may take a few days (weeks?) and interim edits may look disorganised and incomplete.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 00:26, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My major edits to the main text have finished, I believe the article is now B-class but it still needs work on discography, band members & chart positions: I'll have a go at these in the next days or so. Probably some copyediting of main text for ease of read would help: but I'll leave that for the next enterprising editor.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 04:45, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've been working on the discography trying to sort out chronological order for albums and singles. I intend creating a separate Icehouse discography article with the current article providing a link and then only identifying studio releases. This is taking longer than I thought as I'm searching for chart positions, certifications and references.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 02:13, 21 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
A separate Icehouse discography has been created. It replaces most of the discography section of the Icehouse article which now has a link to the main discography article.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 05:44, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

GA Review

[edit]
This review is transcluded from Talk:Icehouse (band)/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the review.

GA review – see WP:WIAGA for criteria

This article is in decent shape, but it needs more work before it becomes a Good Article.

  1. Is it well written?
    A. The prose is clear and concise, and the spelling and grammar are correct:
In the 1977-1981: Flowers section, this sentence ---> "Additional musicians used by Flowers in 1978 were Anthony Smith (aka Adam Hall) on keyboards and Don Brown on drums", I don't think that "aka (Adam Hall)" should be written, especially like that. In the 1990-current: Iva Davies and Icehouse section, this sentence ---> "On New Years Eve in 1999, Davies (vocals, guitar), Tognetti (violin), Guy Pratt (bass), Rom=Pari (Taiko - Japanese drums) and Sydney Symphony Orchestra performed The Ghost of Time on the northern forecourt of Sydney Opera House alongside Sydney Harbour and was televised around the world on CNN and other news networks", needs to be fixed, since there's a "=" in the sentence. Same section, this ---> "Davies had been working in 2001, on a proposed Icehouse album to be titled Bi-Polar Poems[39] with tracks available since 2004 from the Official Iva Davies - Icehouse website[40] including "Your God Not Mine" (see External link below)", is it necessary to include the EL into the paragraph of the article? Same section, this sentence ---> "2003 was a busy year for Iva Davies as he contributed "Ghost of Time" and other music to the film score of the Russell Crowe epic Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World", I don't think that the sentence should start with "2003", maybe if adding "In...." Same thing goes for the "2004" sentence.
Tackled all of these rewording some sentences, deleting some parts; except for "Rom=Pari" the equals sign is part of the Japanese band/artist's name when rendered into English. See amazon.com search. Other searches often show the symbol left out and so use Rom Pari, I don't know the band/artist well enough to know which is definitely correct but have used the form most commonly used in the sources I listed in the Icehouse article, in this case the City of Sydney reference (currently ref #38). I don't know what "Rom=Pari" is in Japanese script nor do I know how to render it in Japanese.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 04:35, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I was just wondering if it was suppose to be like that, I'm not really that aware for this band or other related bands, you would have to excuse me on that. Check. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 02:59, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    B. It complies with the manual of style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation:
Year separators should use en-dash not hyphen, per WP:DASH.
    I think I've got all of these but I might've missed one or two.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 04:35, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Nope, you got 'em. Check. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 02:59, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  1. In the 1977-1981: Flowers section, it would be best if "Iva Davis", "Icehouse (album)" were linked once, per here.
  1. Deleted re-appearance of Int Lnks in second paragaraph. I assume first "Iva Davies" linked in first sentence of this section is okay despite main leading to Iva Davies just above it?Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 04:35, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    Alright and check. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 02:59, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  1. Same section, the link for "Don Walker" needs to be fixed.
  1. Fixed lnk to damb "Don Walker".Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 04:35, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Same thing for the 1981-1989: Icehouse section, "Russell Mulcahy", "Hey Little Girl". Same thing for the 1990-current: Iva Davies and Icehouse section, "Great Southern Land".

  1. Removed other Int Lnks for these sections.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 04:35, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    Double check. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 02:59, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Is it verifiable with no original research, as shown by a source spot-check?
    A. It contains a list of all references (sources of information), presented in accordance with the layout style guideline:
    B. Reliable sources are cited inline. All content that could reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose):
    C. It contains no original research:
    D. It contains no copyright violations nor plagiarism:
  3. Is it broad in its coverage?
    A. It addresses the main aspects of the topic:
    B. It stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (see summary style):
  4. Is it neutral?
It represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each:
  5. Is it stable?
It does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute:
  6. Is it illustrated, if possible, by images?
    A. Images are tagged with their copyright status, and valid non-free use rationales are provided for non-free content:
    B. Images are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions:
It would help if an image can be inserted to the article, so it can illustrate the significance of it. But, if an image can't be found, I won't fail the article because of that.
  7. Overall:
    Pass or Fail:
If the statements above can be answered, I will pass the article. Good luck with improving this article!
Complied with most statements above. Except "Rom=Pari", I believe the equals sign should stay, it is part of the artist's name.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 04:35, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Found ROM=Pari at allmusic see link. Will change article from "Rom=Pari" to "ROM=Pari".Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 05:08, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

--  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 18:50, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

After reading the article, I have gone off and passed the article. Congratulations. If you feel that this review is in error, feel free to take it to a GA review. Thank you to Shaidar cuebiyar who worked hard to bring it to this status, and congratulations. ;) --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 02:59, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Steve Bull

[edit]

In the timeline, Steve Bull is mentioned to have contributed to the band in 2007 only. As I was listening to the recordings of the 'Live in Sydney' concert, I heard that Steve Bull was present there and then, in 2012. Kind of nice to have that updated in the timeline.Franssuper (talk) 16:50, 28 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

GA concerns

[edit]

I am concerned that this article no longer meets the good article criteria. Some of my concerns are listed below:

  • There is lots of uncited text in the article.
  • The article uses sources that WP:RS/P does not consider reliable, such as "Rate Your Music" and "IMDB". These should be removed and replaced.

Is anyone willing to address the above concerns, or should this go to WP:GAR? Z1720 (talk) 20:13, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
