[edit]They are races. Anyone who thinks they aren't should ride in the top ten in one of these events. Participants have motor support and ride it like a race, they are awarded prizes, people's finishing position and time is logged and there are podium presentations at the end. Winning a race like the Ardechoise or Marmotte is something of considerable prestige for french amateur riders. Just because many participants don't treat it as a race (like the London Marathon) it doesn't mean it isn't a race. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.227.33.188 (talk) 21:06, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
- There is a (not entirely serious) school of thought which maintains that the difference between an Audax ride and a cyclosportive is that the riders in the former pretend they're not racing, while the participants in the latter pretend they are... Mr Larrington (talk) 13:57, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
Suitable bikes for the sportive
[edit]This section sounds biased to me and I propose removing it. I don't doubt that racing bikes are used by the majority of riders, but I bet you will also find some mountain bikes. I don't think that everyone considers "in equal proportions" comfort and speed. Finally, the paragraph on carbon bikes is POV - non-carbon bikes are perfectly suitable for cyclosportives too. - There were no objections, so I went ahead and removed the section. RosinDebow (talk) 12:37, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
Timing Standards
[edit]If anyone knows the formula for timing standards I think that would add useful information. For instance it is often stated that Gold/Silver/Bronze standards are based on Age, Sex, distance, and vertical distance but it would be nice to know how much each attribute contributes to the calculation.

- Wouldn't that material be more appropriately incorporated at Gran Fondo Qwfp (talk) 07:49, 11 January 2015 (UTC)
