I've added some information about the stability of carboxylate ions, but I've only studied A-level Chemistry, so my interpretation of what makes carboxylate anions stable may be too naïve. If an expert stumbles upon this page, it would be good if he or she could give my explanation a once-over. I realise there's also an explanation on the carboxylic acid page, but I went into more detail about why it's more stable than an alkoxide ion on this page. Thanks. Nomenclature

Say My Name

The 2nd sentence in the article is

It is an ion with negative charge.


I want to specify a carboxylate by its more common one-word identifer

 anion

in addition to the descriptive phrase

an ion with negative charge


The resulting sentence would be

It is an  anion, an ion with negative charge.


Barring objections and my laziness, I will make the change.

Pyrolysis of carboxylate salts

Isn’t this a significant reacion. I know that calcium acetate on heating yields acetone and believe similar reactions take place with other calcium carboxylate and probably also Mg Sr Ba salts. I think I have read that alkali salts yield different products and was hoping to find info on that.
