Miss Universe Philippines Cebu is a regional title under the Miss Universe Philippines (MUPH) organization, representing the province of Cebu in the annual national pageant. The titleholder serves as Cebu’s ambassador, showcasing the province’s culture, heritage, and tourism, while vying for the Miss Universe Philippines crown. Cebu has consistently produced strong contenders in the pageant, often placing highly or winning awards.[1]

History

[edit]

The Miss Universe Philippines Cebu title was officially integrated into the Miss Universe Philippines Accredited Partners Program following its separation from Binibining Pilipinas in 2019. Cebu is represented by four designations: Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City and Cebu Province, reflecting the region’s division and diversity.

The titleholder is chosen through local pageants or appointed by provincial organizers. She undergoes rigorous preparation in public speaking, runway skills, and community engagement to represent Cebu on the national stage.[2]

Notable achievements

[edit]

Cebu’s representatives have achieved significant success in the Miss Universe Philippines competition:

  • Beatrice Luigi Gomez (Miss Universe Philippines 2021) – The first openly LGBTQ+ winner of MUPH, representing Cebu City. She later advanced to the Miss Universe 2021 pageant in Eilat, Israel, where she placed in the Top 5.[3]
  • Gazini Ganados (Miss Universe Philippines 2019) – Representing Talisay, Cebu, Ganados won the Best in National Costume award and placed in the Top 20 at Miss Universe 2019.[4]

Cultural advocacy

[edit]

Miss Universe Philippines Cebu titleholders often promote Cebuano culture, sustainable tourism, and community development. They also emphasize environmental preservation, a cause closely tied to Cebu’s natural beauty and historical landmarks.

Selection process

[edit]

The Miss Universe Philippines Cebu pageant features various segments, including evening gown, swimsuit, and question-and-answer portions. Contestants are judged based on beauty, intelligence, and advocacy. Winners are then prepared for the national competition by local mentors and MUPH officials.
