Dobropillia (Ukrainian: Добропілля, IPA: [dobroˈp⁽ʲ⁾ilʲːɐ] ; Russian: Доброполье, romanizedDobropolye) is a city in Pokrovsk Raion, Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine. Prior to 2020, it was a city of oblast significance and served as the administrative center of the former Dobropillia Raion, though it did not belong to the raion. It is located 94 kilometres (58 mi) from Donetsk, the administrative center of the oblast. Population: 28,170 (2022 estimate);[1] 40,064 (1989);[2]

History

A local newspaper is published here since February 1935.[3]

During the Second World War, the settlement was occupied by Axis troops. City since 1953. In 1970, the population of the city was 30 thousand people, the basis of the economy was coal mining.[4][5]
