editFrom Proto-Finnic *parci, from Proto-Finno-Ugric *pärtä. Related to Estonian pars, Karelian parsi, Livonian parž, Veps parz' and Votic parsi, and further Eastern Mari пырдыж (pyrdyž, “wall”), Udmurt борд (bord, “wall”) and Northern Mansi па̄рт (pārt, “board”).
