Good editing of the page :).
2008 domino day
editOngoing now, and 9 out of 10 world records are officially reached. Counting out of my head, they are about 250.000 to 280.000 stones away from beating the original world record. --82.168.78.46 (talk) 21:44, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
- Update: Building challange 1, 3 and 4 succeeded, number 2 (100.000 stones) failed. Officially unconfirmed, but confirmed by me: World record broken. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.168.78.46 (talk) 21:54, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
- According to orf.at, the world record of the most toppled dominoes has been broken, and additionally, 8 of 9 of the other world record attempts have been successful - so one of the attempts has failed. (orf.at does not say which one.) --Andi47 (talk) 16:13, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
What is a builder challenge? Not at all clear from what I've read. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.44.132.172 (talk) 19:48, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
- A builder challenge is where part of the domino track remains uncompleted but difficult to complete, and dominos on the track set of a two minute claxon. Two random members of the building team (normally 70ish people) are then designated the job of completing this part of the track. If they do, the domino track will pull a barrier up and allow approximately 100,000 or 200,000 more dominos to fall. If it succeeds, the barrier is lifted and the extra dominos can add to the record. If it fails, the barrier blocks the topple and this part of the track remains upright. Other dominos continue to fall but they lose the opportunity to get so many more dominos. For example, this year they had to complete a part of the track that was continually rising standing on lifts, they had to add weighted dominos to a glass that was not very balanced (had to put dominos on both sides at the same time to keep it in balance, and even had one member of the team winched over a part of the track, having to get dominos from stands around the area and place them in a line. Basically the challenge is just 'can you complete the track in 2 mins and help us get the record'. Elpasi (talk) 22:10, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
Most dominos resting on domino
editShouldn't this mention somewhere that the structure had to stay up for an hour to break the record? Elpasi (talk) 22:13, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
No more Domino Days?
editThe last Domino Day was on November 13, 2009, with 4,491,863 of 4,800,000 dominoes toppled. But there weren't any Domino Days in 2010 or 2011, and there will be no Domino Day in 2012. --84.61.131.15 (talk) 19:11, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
Ratings for 2009?
editThe ratings for the 2009 edition seem off, to say the least. Nobody watched in the Netherlands and Belgium (this I'm willing to believe), but there were 82 million viewers in Germany (so basically the entire population, without exceptions)? Could somebody check this? Tom (talk) 10:18, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
- Same thing for the 2007 Hungarian ratings. In a country of 10 million, there's just no show that 6 million would watch. The highest ones reach a viewership of 2-2.5 million. Anything above that is false. TomyHun (talk) 23:03, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
