English : Hebrew point rafe (U+05BF). This diacritic is placed above certain letters to indicate that they are to be pronounced as fricatives instead of closives; in Ladino (not in standard Hebrew), it can also be placed above some other letters to indicate that they are to be pronounced as affricates. In some block writing styles, this diacritic may be replaced by a ponctuation gerech (U+05F3) appended to the left of the base letter. This diacritic is frequently omitted (notably in various modern editions of Masssoretic texts for the Hebrew Bible, but was present in the very respected Aleppo Codex manuscript and its preserved Leningrad Codex copy). It is rarely used in modern Hebrew.
