Sleep types (Japanese: 睡眠タイプ Sleep type) are properties that apply to the Pokémon that can be encountered in Pokémon Sleep, as well as to the player's own sleep sessions. Sleep types determine which Pokémon will gather around the player's Snorlax in the game.
Summary
A Pokémon can have only one sleep type. There are three sleep types in the game, each corresponding to a real-world sleep stage terminology.
- Dozing type (Japanese: うとうとタイプ Dozing type): This corresponds to the "awake" or "light sleep" phase of a sleep cycle. Pokémon that have the Dozing sleep type generally include Grass-type and Bug-type Pokémon,[1] as well as Poison-type, Dark-type, and Ghost-type Pokémon.
- Snoozing type (Japanese: すやすやタイプ Peaceful sleeping type): This corresponds to rapid eye movement sleep (REM sleep) or Stages 1-2 of non-rapid eye movement sleep (NREM sleep). Pokémon that have the Snoozing sleep type generally include Fire-type and Electric-type Pokémon,[2] as well as Normal-type, Psychic-type, and Fairy-type Pokémon.
- Slumbering type (Japanese: ぐっすりタイプ Deep sleeping type): This corresponds to non-rapid eye movement sleep (NREM sleep), especially its Stage 3, also known as deep sleep. Pokémon that have the Slumbering sleep type generally include Water-type and Ground-type Pokémon,[3] as well as Rock-type, Ice-type, and baby Pokémon.
When a player finishes tracking a sleep session, the game will analyze the time that the player spends on each sleep stage, and will categorize the player's sleep as Dozing, Snoozing, Slumbering, or Balanced (a middle ground between the three). The category of this sleep session will then determine the species of Pokémon that would gather around the player's Snorlax (with a Balanced sleep, the Pokémon that will gather will be of a variety of sleep types).

Trivia
- The Sleep Type Quiz in the official Pokémon Sleep website categorizes Diglett as a Slumbering-type,[4] even though it is Snoozing-type in the game.
