Greek style teapot, c.1850

Porcelain teapot made in the UK in the mid nineteenth century with matte finish neoclassical decoration, stands 7.25 inches long by 4.5 inches tall. I originally thought this teapot was made by Samuel Alcock but I have been told it was made by Dudson.

The other side of the teapot with chariot decoration.

Both the handle and the spout have an unusual repair of tightly wrapped metal wire.

The undamaged lid has extra deep sides.

The teapot was also available with a black background, shown here without the wire repairs.

I have a matte black globe teapot with the same chariot decoration on both sides. It has only a red overglaze number (3997) and a workman’s mark on it. Can you tell me how you identified it as Samuel Alcock, and where I might find more information about it? Thanks you!

I actually stumbled upon an image of my teapot while researching the “Naomi” salt glaze ewer, also made by Samuel Alcock. If you do a general Google search, you can find lots of info, including this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samuel_Alcock. Good luck with your research and thanks for your interest!
