Les Smith Jr.
Les Smith Jr. is a member-elect of the Chesapeake City Council in Virginia. He assumes office on January 1, 2025.
Smith ran for election to the Chesapeake City Council in Virginia. He won in the general election on November 5, 2024.
Biography
Smith earned his B.S. in business administration from St. Paul's College in 1983. He later received an M.S. in human resources management from the University of Richmond. Smith served as a deputy lieutenant with the Chesapeake Sheriff's Department for 28 years before his retirement. He volunteers his time with the National Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice and New Chesapeake Men for Progress.[1]

Les Smith, Jr. sought election to an at-large seat against incumbents Christie Craig, Harry A. Murphy and Michael J. Woods and six challengers during the general election on May 10, 2014. Board members Bonita Billingsley Harris and Ann R. Wiggins did not file for re-election by the March 4, 2014 deadline.

Funding
Smith reported $6,400.72 in contributions and $5,773.44 in expenditures to the Virginia State Board of Elections, leaving his campaign with $627.28 on hand prior to the election.[2]
Endorsements
Smith received the endorsement of the Chesapeake Democratic Committee on March 14, 2014.[3] The Virginian-Pilot endorsed Smith ahead of the May 6, 2014 election.[4]
