Williams' campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Good jobs

  • Right to Work is a decades old, union busting measure that has sadly made its way to the union proud Mountain State. Its proponents argue that it promotes job growth in both union and nonunion positions, while the facts say that not only does it not create jobs, it causes vast wage stagnation and increasing rates of workplace injury and fatality.
  • Though Right to Work is typically a hard bell to unring, and it will certainly be a fight to roll back the legislation, John is ready and willing to take on that fight.

Roads and Infrastructure

  • I will be a refreshing yet aggressive voice for Mon County residents. If the folks in Charleston enjoy the revenue we provide now, then I will make sure they understand what the future could hold if West Virginia would invest in our roads and our infrastructure. I think we’d surpass economic stability.

Fairness

  • The LGBTQ community already lacks equal protections under the law, which every American should enjoy. Such discriminatory policies signal to others that we are intolerant of difference in West Virginia. In my experience, that is not the case. West Virginians are kind, compassionate and welcoming people. As our young talent flees the state in droves, we cannot afford to push any others out the door, or actively discourage others from relocating to the Mountain State. The LGBTQ community needs more protections in WV, not less.[8]
—John Williams[9]

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in West Virginia

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
