Kishida Eriko was a Japanese poet and story writer. She also wrote lyrics for songs.
A graduate of the Tokyo University of the Arts, the Tokyo native first started out as a painter and then took up writing following an illness. The prize-winning author was a daughter of the late playwright Kishida Kunio and an older sister to the late actress, Kishida Kyouko. One of her best-selling books, the picture book Kaba-kun about a day in the life of two hippopotamuses, has been published in English as Wake Up, Hippo!
She died from a tumor at a hospital in Odawara, Kanagawa Prefecture on April 7, 2011.
