Nem olyan régen veszítette el a történettudomány világa a múlt század ókori római kutatóinak egyik kiemelkedőbb alakját, az epigráfiai, prozopográfiai és társadalomtörténeti kutatások mesterét, Alföldy Gézát. Számunkra ő volt és lesz a tudományos szorgalom és tudásvágy, valamint a tudományos vélemény szabad és független megfogalmazásának és kialakításának mintaképe, a mindenkori Tudós eszményképe. 2016. novemberében lesz halálának 5. évfordulója. A poznańi Adam Mickiewicz Egyetem Európai Kultúra Intézete ez alkalomból egy 2-3 napos, a fent említett tudományos területeket magában foglaló konferenciával emlékezik Alföldy Gézára. A konferencia kérdésfelvetéseit, témaköreit azokra a kutatási területekre szeretnénk összpontosítani, melyekben Alföldy Géza nagy nemzetközi elismertséget szerzett és új irányt szabott kutatásuknak: 1. The aim of the article is to compare spanish and French vision of colonisation. By drawing on the works of Frantz Fanon and Enrique Dussel, I intend to demonstrate what mechanisms were employed by the French and the spaniards to create a colonial society. The article also sets out to find how the contemporary inhabitants of the  Latin
America and the Francophone Africa cope with the legacy of colonialism.

This paper sets out to demonstrate how a number of European football fans, drawing on the hierarchy of races, build their identity by creating and/or negating a figure of the Other, a black footballer, whose only guilt is non-being White. The category of coloniality provides the starting point and the principal axis of narration.

The article analyses relationships between history and memory in the context of Catalonian nationalism. Its essential aim is to demonstrate how one makes (i.e. uses and abuses) memory in Catalonia. The book addresses the issue of relationships between gender and power. Although  the subject has been analysed on many occassions and in a variety of fashions, the volume does not duplicate the well-known views, but points to the limitations of the previous approaches and suggests possibilities of overcoming those. For the authors
of the featured texts, gender also denotes sex in the biological sense, while power  does not mean the omnipotent techniques of control, but also strategies of active resistance and emancipation. Having applied a different interpretative paradigm, the  authors pose new questions to the already known research material: How to define  the category of gender/sex in today's (trans)gender world? In what way do the
deliberations on the nature and essence of power affect gender? Do men and women function equally within the machinery of power, assuming the roles of clearly defined cogs, i.e. the dominant (men) and the dominated (women) ones?Answering such questions requires a broad perspective, ranging from antiquity,  when power was “invented” by being attributing one gender (though not without  exceptions) and when the canon of speaking of what is “female” and “male” was devised, to the contemporary times, in which both categories and their mutual relationships undergo radical reevaluation.

Th  e article attempts to answer the question about the character of the monarchy of the Catholic Kings. With this context in mind, the author analyzes the process of reconquest and associated issues concerning the emergence of the Spanish nation and its statehood. Apart from the testimony of chronicles, the text draws on source documents, which constitute the foundation of the Castilian–Aragon union.

The aim of the article is to demonstrate how the system of forced labour developed within the Spanish colonial economy, a system that served what is termed workforce control. In this context, I analyse the structure of pre-Hispanic societies of America and the mental type of the Spanish colonizer, which had a signifi cant impact on the shape of the colonial labour system. Next, I present how the institutions of encomienda, repartimiento and slavery functioned in practice in the main areas of the colonial economy.
