Got potato wedges for $10! I walked thinking perhaps the cashier thought it was a shrimp container. Just never going back again.

I used to spend a good deal of money with the Tony's in Niles. I would get curbside pickup because of health reasons. The staff for curbside was fantastic, especially Maria. They would call if they had any questions about my online order. You then began to charge for pickup. I started shopping less frequently. The other day I decided to shop again only to find out that Curbside pickup has been cancelled. Sorry to hear that. Your ex customer Frank

This place is a mess now , not very clean and service lacks managers rude workers , go to Mariano's or Jewels your better off , they are racists it seems as well and look at you as if your an alien or with hate , I been to a few Tony's all the workers seem they are trained with bad managers and treat the customers the same , the hiring department needs to update the hiring crew they lack , most important to get the right workers , no kidding why people walk in and run out , go elsewhere pay a few pennies more and get treated with respect, being Italian it embarrassed me walking in there recently .
Frank sometimes the truth hurts , my words come with facts and if you found my truth offensive , my apologies , I found your stores offensive as well , maybe you can take my statement to the leader board and fix the issues as fast as you where to make remarks here , maybe take your stores to the level of your competition , a scratch sometimes can infected a large company and take it down fast , Marianos and Jewels are untouchable even with a little higher price, people will go because they hire the right people , anyways Frank take care and good luck .Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Yesterday I went shopping for groceries. Upon return I notice that I was
charges for 4 lettuce red leaf salat @ $ 1.99 instead of for only 1.
I don't think I have a chance to recoup the difference of $ 6.00.
Recommend to always check the cashiers slip before leaving the store.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi Frank-
No discussion is needed. There is no room for a 5 star review in the future until I see an improvement in staff behavior towards customers has improved. When I shop at other stores, they are polite, nice helpful, friendly, etc, unlike the treatment received at your store location. That said, please think of customer interactions first with your employees. Good Luck Tonys!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

May 1, 2023Previous reviewThe items at this store are fine, however, self checkout was another story entirely. I was really taken aback by the way the crew monitors this process. Two Indian girls and one securtity guard watching closely (staring).
The worst part was while scanning my items, an Indian girl came up on me (without saying a word) and interrupted the process, changed the screen and began scanning my items for me without saying anything, I was like WTF is going on here?!? I found this behavior highly offensive indeed.
When I asked her what she was doing she proceeded to continue. I told her "that I am able to do this by myself"! She then changed the screen again and walked away without saying a word (like a programmed robot IMHO). I was outraged by this experience and will not be returning. This is no way to treat a paying customer. What is wrong with you people?? Sheesh!! - Mar 5, 2021Updated review
Long story short, I hadn't been to Tony's in a few years, but randomly found out that they now have a salad bar and hot food bar. This would expand my working-from-home lunch options significantly, so I had to check it out.
It's $6.99/lb for salad and $7.99/lb for hot food. The cold side has a lot of mixed salads, not as much selection of plain vegetables and salad ingredients like you might see elsewhere. On the hot side, there is a nice variety: plenty of fun bad-for-you foods such as fried chicken, chicken wings in various flavors, onion rings, polish sausage, italian sausage, mac & cheese, breaded mushrooms; many other options such as pot roast, meat loaf, roast pork, salmon, various pastas, different types of potatoes, fried rice, brussels sprouts, asparagus, et al et al. Not all at once, mind you. This is a sampling from three visits last month.
A few items are good (I really like the rib tips, of all things) but most are just okay. Things tend to get either mushy or dried out more than other hot bars that I've frequented; everything is lukewarm.
But I'm glad that it's there. It's good for when you don't know what you want.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Nov 25, 2015Previous reviewThis store is really growing on me. I will always be a Mariano's guy. However, I no longer live a five-minute walk from a bitchin' giant Mariano's; instead I live equidistant between two crappy Jewels. And believe me, Tony's is a far, far better option than a crappy Jewel.
When you walk in the front and see gelato and smoothie stands, you may think that they are indeed trying to copy Mariano's. Who knows. They feel like two different kinds of stores to me, although there is some overlap. There is a salad bar, but no hot food bar. They make no attempt to match the big M on prepared foods, although there is fried chicken and sushi.
Where they outclass Mariano's and every other regional grocery is in produce. I don't know how they do it, but their stuff is always gorgeous and fresh, and they have killer weekly sales on items that I eat all the time such as red grapes, gala apples, navel oranges, green peppers, sweet corn, and so on. Plus they have plenty of exotic stuff, not a few dessicated token specimens in the corner, but big, vivacious piles of them.
The deli is extensive, very much appreciated. I can get more than a dozen kinds of turkey. And they have a pickle barrel! (The pickles are pretty good too.) And two sauerkraut barrels! Who ever heard of such a thing?? Beware the weekend lines at this deli; you may take number 38 and find that they are serving 25, and some of those customers ahead of you are very high maintenance.
The bakery is unreliable. Not the wares--reliably good bread and rolls, reliably ho-hum sweets. (However, their apple fritter ain't bad for a grocery store.) The problem is their failure of alacrity in the morning. At 7:15 or 7:30, you are lucky to see any bagels. Occasionally, by 7:40 to 7:45, there are still NO baked goods whatsoever. WTFudge. That really, really sucks when you've made breakfast and lunch plans based on picking up a bagel and a roll. I make this silly plan frequently and then at least half the time it fails. Shape up, Tony! Your store opens at 7; it is inexcusable to have no fresh baked items half an hour later. If you open at 7, you should be fully operational at 7.
Tony's other main strength is their imported grocery items. I don't know what most of that stuff is, but I'm sure that I would appreciate it if I were from any of those places. The tradeoff for this is that the depth and breadth of regular grocery items--your various canned, boxed, and bagged goods--is a bit weak, as the ethnic foods leave less space for mainstream products. For example, I found generic Cheerios (Centrella brand) but no generic bran flakes. They have Jif Natural creamy peanut butter, but not crunchy. They sell only one variety of vegetable pasta (Barilla penne). They carry Quaker rice cakes, but not the chocolate chunk flavor. So it seems that you can find what you want generally, but if you prefer specific brands or varieties, you might need to try a different store.
Oh, one last thing, but a biggie--self-checkout terminals. Such a beautiful thing. The self-checkouts and the produce quality and selection keep me coming back; the bakery issue prevents them from being my #1 store though.
A few other random observations:
+ Chase ATM
+ House guacamole is solid
+ Frequent $1.99 sale on Kerrygold Irish butter--best price in Chicagoland
+ Four different brands of rice pudding. I like the one with the guy wearing a sombrero.
+ Pretty good grocery store sushi
+/- Bagels are on the dry side but still better than any other grocery store
+/- Fresh juice selection is pleasantly diverse (e.g. watermelon, canteloupe, beet, carrot) but I would love to see more blends such as orange/grapefruit, orange/pineapple, or beet/carrot/apple
+/- The deli has several different kinds of bacon, some of which I've never heard of...but the deli staff cannot explain the differences between them
+/- The meat department makes pretty good italian sausage, but when it's labelled Hot, it really isn't
- The fried chicken is not good
- I can never find a goddamn basket--NEVER - Joshua H.Niles, IL0121Apr 1, 2023
Tony's does have good produce and deli, but they are overpriced on packaged goods. Also, they are not sympathetic to people who have special dietary needs, particularly gluten free. I asked about them getting gluten free items, and they shrugged and said they were not going to accommodate people with those needs.

Thank you for your feedback, Joshua. We do put over 5,000 items on sale every week. Our weekly ad is the best place to find those deals. We also offer exclusive deals on our free Tony’s Fresh Market app available in the Apple and Google store. Would you be willing to tell us which items specifically you feel are priced high? Additionally, we would be happy to look into getting some gluten free items in stock. Were there any items specifically you were looking for? Please feel free to email us at customerhappiness@tonysfreshmarket.com. Thank you, we appreciate your shopping with us.

While I enjoy the quality of the meats and produce the store does not honor advertised prices unless you catch it during check out. What I mean by saying that is every time I go there there are multiple items that will ring up for more than the advertised prices either in the weekly ad or on the tags in the store. Then When you ask them about it you get the third degree from the manager they will call over. While I will usually catch their mistakes I feel more concerned for some of their elderly clients that maybe not able to see the screen or follow along as they are ringing items up. I will give two examples from my experience today...... gatorades were supposed to be .99 when u buy 10. I bought 10 but did they ring up for that price....nope. Family size Doritos clearly labeled 2 for $10 when you buy 2. Did they ring up for that ....... Nope. Both had to have a manager come over and take 10mins to pull out ads and just to find out I am right. They really need to look at their point of sale system.
