WIPO Academy

The WIPO Academy is the center of excellence for IP education, training and skills-building for WIPO member states, in particular developing countries, least-developed countries (LDCs) and countries in transition. The Academy works to help build human capacity in IP, which is essential to innovation.

Skills-based specialized IP training for government officials, entrepreneurs, innovators, business owners, and IP professionals organized in partnership with institutions around the world, for professional and business development.

WIPO Academy IP eLearning

Online and hybrid IP courses at introductory, advanced and executive levels in more than ten languages. Participants can follow general or specialized online courses on copyright and industrial property, including on topics such as trademarks, industrial designs, geographical indications and patents.

Acceeding to WIPO treaties

Acceeding to a treaty can involve a lot of preparatory work for government officials. We assist in navigating the process through events that focus on processes, procedures, prerequisites, etc. 

Converting treaties into national law

After acceding to a treaty, countries should translate its provisions into their own legislative system. WIPO offers both general and tailor-made legal advice to help make sure that government officials avoid common mistakes.

IP office officials

Industrial property rights examination

Helping industrial property examiners to up-skill can result in more efficient processing of national applications. Our training focuses on the processes, procedures and skills necessary in examination.

Using WIPO systems

Through workshops dedicated to our various systems of protection (e.g. PCT, Madrid, etc.), we assist IP office staff to master all of the specific processes and procedures necessary to use our global systems of protection.

Use of knowledge tools

A range of WIPO and non-WIPO tools (e.g. databases) exist to facilitate IP search and classification. We offer workshops to familiarize IP office staff with the most important of these in order to use them in their day-to-day work.

We assist judges to constantly improve and fine-tune their knowledge of IP law and enforcement issues. We do this through workshops, as well as ongoing capacity building projects.
