The Stealth-Wealth Brand That All the Stars Wore This Year (And No, It Wasn't The Row)
When Phoebe Philo launched her eponymous label in late 2023, fashion fans instantly went wild. They had long been awaiting her return, after all: The elegant, modern clothes that Philo designed while at Chloé and Celine continue to be the blueprint for elevated, aspirational style. Philo's first collection under her eponymous label instantly sold out, with fans rapidly dropping thousands to get their hands on her luxurious coats, silky tops, and cool sculptural shoes. While the brand has remained relatively low-profile since then—quietly dropping new pieces throughout the year, without much announcement—Philo’s clothes have continued to make a big splash. Especially on the Hollywood red carpets. While fellow stealth-wealth labels like The Row and Khaite and faring well, 2024 was truly Philo’s year.
Stars like Hailey Bieber, Rihanna, Kendall Jenner, and Chloe Sevigny wasted no time slipping into some of Philo’s new pieces over the past 12 months. And understandably so: there is an effortlessness and coolness to her clothes that lends them to event dressing. Philo creates looks that are sophisticated without trying too hard. Her silky pieces—like asymmetrical draped dresses and high-neck blouses—have been a particular hit amongst celebrities. Hailey Bieber wore a white flowy style during her pregnancy, and the billowy silhouette proved perfect for maternity dressing—not to mention it was incredibly chic. Supermodel Linda Evangelista wore Philo's silky chocolate brown two-piece set, and the turtleneck-trouser combo felt casually elegant.
Philo’s suiting and outerwear has been a draw as well. Working in her signature boxy and menswear-like silhouettes, the designer has put forward sharp-shouldered jackets that add a sense of power to any outfit. Rihanna recently stepped out in a long leather trench coat, while Kendall Jenner slipped into one of the label's olive double-breasted suits back in April. One of the best moments of the year, however, was when Sevigny wore a leather Philo bomber jacket with a built-in ruffled skirt. A classic LBD this was not: the look felt tough, edgy, yet surprisingly refined.
In a sea of glitzy Hollywood gowns, Philo’s muted designs have managed to stand out. She’s fast becoming a celebrity style secret weapon—a designer of looks that whisper elegance, versus screaming it from the rooftops. And we predict 2025 will be an even bigger year for the label. The question is: Who will wear it next? tealth-wealth masters Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Lawrence, perhaps?
