In a new interview, Amal Clooney, international human rights lawyer who is both pregnant with twins and married to an internationally famous person, actor George Clooney, discusses how her sudden celebrity has affected her day job.
“There is lots of my work that takes place behind closed doors that is not ever seen,” Amal told Fiona Bruce on BBC News at Six Tuesday evening. “I think if there are more people who now understand what's happening about the Yazidis and ISIS, and if there can be some action that results from that, that can help those clients, then I think it's a really good thing to give that case the extra publicity that it may get.”
Her caveat, though, is a matter of substance: “If you don’t have a good case and you don’t have a good message, then shining a light on it is not going to get you very far.”

Clooney, whose fame-by-marriage has drawn plenty of attention to her work over the years (and only some of the attention is focused on what she’s wearing on the job), doesn't often speak publicly, especially when it's not about her work. But when she does, she manages to refocus the conversation on the important stuff. It's been nearly a year since she addressed the same sort of question with NBC's Cynthia McFadden. “I don’t really see myself in the same way [as charitable celebrities like Angelina Jolie] because I’m still doing the same job that I used to do before,”she said. "So if there’s more attention paid, for whatever reason, to that, then I think that’s good.”
Clooney was recently honored for her fight against genocide on behalf of her client Nadia Murad, and even Matt Damon heaped on the praise in light of the twin news. “She’s amazing. [George Clooney] hit the jackpot. Just on every level. She is a remarkable woman. They’re gonna be great. They’re gonna be awesome parents. Those kids are lucky.”
