President to be in town on Labor Day

For the Greater Boston Labor Council Labor Day Breakfast at the Park Plaza. So if you have any reason to visit that area, you might want to do it well before Monday morning.

Why must any president ruin vacations? Can't they wait for a work day to do this?

by this horrible, horrible visit. How *dare* the President honor Labor Day by meeting with local labor leaders at their long-running Labor Day event? It's an *outrage*!

I think you're onto something there, anon. If you want to honor labor, don't do it on the holiday dedicated to honoring the work of laborers. Pick a work day.

Better alternative: do away with the stupid road closures, and have him travel around in the city in a convoy of uparmored Humvees and APC's. It's not as elegant as black limos, but if it's good enough for our soldiers on patrol in Baghdad than it should be good enough for the President commuting through Boston.

HONOR LABORERS BY NOT SCREWING UP ONE OF THEIR FEW VACATION DAYS OFF

has been going on for years. Having the most pro-labor President since Clinton show up is a big deal. Ever think it's maybe less disruptive to the working man you seem to care so much about than on an ordinary weekday?

It was meant to be a day off to celebrate labor and honor the struggle.

Which is what this particular event is about.

So, of the past 2 Presidents, he is the "most pro-labor."

That's kind of a low bar, and my view is not a reflection on either how good the current President is on labor issues or how bad the previous President was.

That said, Obama was going to attend a labor breakfast somewhere in America. I think it's kind of cool that it is Boston. Kind of bums me out that my time attending GBLC events has passed.

It would be simpler to say that all Republican Presidents since the rise of the labor movement have been virulently anti-labor, with the possible exception of Eisenhower, who would be drummed out of the modern GOP as a virtual Commie.

Martha's Vinyard is beautiful this time of year.

Can't wait for the next three Labor Day weekends starting next year when much of the South Boston Waterfront will be an absolute mess for the IndyCar race .... which NO ONE IS TALKING ABOUT

The President of the United States of America comes to our city for a rare visit, and some people's first reaction is to whine about anticipated traffic issues. Show some respect, if not for the man then at least for the office. Be patriotic. Stop whining. Take the T. Ride a bike. Or stay home and enjoy the holiday.

Go to work because I don't have the day off to begin with. I'm Laborin' on Labor Day. Thanks, non-union job industry that I work in!

BTW, people whine about ANYTHING to do with traffic. Prez has no monopoly on that.

The president is a lowly civil servant that works for US. Patriotism is about loving your country not bowing down to those who work for you.

Needs to be said much more often.

It's projected to hit 88F on Monday. If people are going anywhere it will be toward swim-able water and shade with a nice breeze.

Hanging out and driving around in an asphalt furnace is likely to be low on most people's list.

America has the lowest number since 1977 of people actually working; over 90 million do not (at least officially) have employment. We also have the greatest number on food stamps.

Happy Labor Day.

News, which makes them dumb enough to repeat obvious, easily-debunked lies like that "90 million do not have employment" whopper. That number is absurdly padded, as it includes a lot of Americans who wouldn’t be expected to be working, specifically:

• People age 16 to 17, who likely are in high school: 9 million

• People who are enrolled in either two- or four-year colleges: 21 million

• People age 65 and older, who have reached retirement age: 40 million people

That leaves the real number at 20 million, less than one-quarter the bullshit number repeatedly cited in Wingnut La-La Land.

If you really want to honor labor (and I doubt you do), start by upgrading your news sources to ones that don't make you look like a gullible dumbass.
