The Volcano at the Mirage Hotel

You probably know this but there is a volcano that erupts on the Las Vegas strip. It happens every day and if you stand close enough you will feel the heat of the flames as the roar of the volcano brings the entire scene to life. This free show is an icon in Las Vegas and it would be a shame if you missed out on it.

If you can remember far enough back there was a time when Las Vegas was really all about the bright lights and the gambling and then one day Steve Wynn decided to put a giant erupting volcano right on Las Vegas Blvd. If you can remember the days before that you probably don't care for the volcano in Las Vegas. In fact, you probably would rather have $2.99 buffet and look for your entertainment from a classy lounge act. (come to think of it, so would I)

However, you owe it to yourself to stand out in front of The Mirage Resort & Casino in Las Vegas and wait for the music to come on. The Mirage brought in The Grateful Dead’s Mickey Hart and Indian tabla sensation Zakir Hussain to create a soundtrack that is more than just background sound. The buildup from the percussion centered music takes you through the eruption almost as if you were traveling from the magma chamber deep in the mantle of the earth all the way past the crust and into the oxygen-rich atmosphere. Magma turning into lava and fire dropping into water and a complete sensory experience all happening within a few feet from your phone holding hand. Your friends will love the selfie. Be careful because the heat that comes from the volcano is shocking.

The volcano erupts nightly and the best views are from right in front of the resort. You could take a seat at Rhumbar and have a drink and enjoy the show but you only get a partial view and your free experience would be hindered by the cost of a drink.

Description of the Volcano at The Mirage Las Vegas

The Volcano erupts nightly and I must say it is impressive. The heat that comes from the 54-foot high structure is a little unnerving but the show is worth battling the crowds of people that gather in front of the Mirage.

If you happen to be walking down the strip near Caesars Palace or the Treasure Island there is no way you can miss the show. For a different view of the erupting volcano, watch it from the Venetian Hotel. There are smaller crowds and you get a perfect picture of the entire scene without jamming up close to a stranger.

More Free Entertainment in Las Vegas

Once the show is over you can walk inside and see The Beatles "LOVE" by Cirque Du Soleil or walk up the street to Bellagio Las Vegas where another fantastic free show will captivate you if only for a few minutes. Inside Bellagio Las Vegas the gardens will impress you and the views from Hyde Bellagio will also make you happy. Next door at Cosmopolitan Resort they have art all around the property as well as in their parking garage. Aria Resort has a large public art installation that will keep you intrigued as you tour their large resort. Entertainment in Downtown Las Vegas is also free at the Fremont Street Experience where live bands perform nightly and a light show dazzles visitors a few times each evening.
