Sir Ian Godfrey Bosville Macdonald of Sleat, 17th Bt. was born on 18 July 1947.1 He is the son of Sir Alexander Somerled Angus Bosville Macdonald of Sleat, 16th Bt. and Mary Elizabeth Gibbs.2 He married Juliet Fleury Ward-Harrison, daughter of Maj.-Gen. John Ward-Harrison and June Amoret Fleury Teulon, on 1 August 1970.1
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He succeeded as the 17th Baronet Macdonald, of Sleat, in the Isle of Skye, co. Inverness [N.S., 1625] on 21 October 1958.1 He was educated at Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester, Gloucestershire, EnglandG.1 He was registered as a Professional Associate, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (A.R.I.C.S.)1 He held the office of Member of the Humberside County Council between 1981 and 1984.1 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (F.R.I.C.S.) in 1986.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of Humberside between 1988 and 1989.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of the County of Hull in 1997.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of the East Riding, Yorkshire in 1997.1 He lived in 2003 at Thorpe Hall, Rudston, Yorkshire, EnglandG.1
