General Sir Horace Smith-Dorrien 1
He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow, London, England.3 He was commissioned in 1877, in the service of the 95th Foot.3 He fought in the Zulu War in 1879.3 He fought in the Egyptian Campaign in 1882.3 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1886.5 He fought in the Battle of Omdurman in 1898.3 He fought in the Boer War between 1898 and 1902.3 He fought in the Major-General in 1901.3 He was Adjutant-General, India between 1901 and 1903.3 He was commander of the 4th Division, Quetta between 1903 and 1907.3 He held the office of Aide-de-Camp General to King George V in 1910.3 He was Commander-in-Chief of the Southern Command between 1912 and 1914.3 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.) in 1913.5 He was commander of the 2nd Corps in 1914 at Mons.3 He fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1918.3 He was commander of the 2nd Army in 1915.3 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of St. Michael and St. George (G.C.M.G.) in 1915.5 He was awarded the Officier, Ordre national de la Légion d'honneur.3 He held the office of Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Gibraltar between 1918 and 1923.3

Patrick George Skene, 5th of Pitlour and 9th of Hallyards was born on 15 May 1790.2 He was the son of Patrick Moncrieff of Reedie and Myres Castle and Lucy Hay.3 He married, firstly, Emily Rait, daughter of John Rait and Elizabeth Guthrie, on 25 August 1826 at Strathmiglio, Fife, Scotland.3,4 He married, secondly, Jessie Campbell, daughter of Dugald John Campbell of Skerrington and Janet Baillie, in 1837.3 He died on 30 December 1861 at age 71.2
He was given the name of Patrick George Moncrieff at birth.3 In 1825 his name was legally changed to Patrick George Skene under the will of his grand-uncle, General Philip Skene.3 He lived at Hallyards, Fife, ScotlandG.1
