The 8th annual Washington DC South Asian Film Festival (DCSAFF) 2019 took place from September 20 till September 22, 2019. Pakistani feature films Baaji and Laal Kabootar, directed by debutants Saqib Malik and Kamal Khan, respectively, were screened during the three-day event that recently came to an end.
According to recent reports, Ahmed Ali Akbar, who played the protagonist in Laal Kabootar opposite Mansha Pasha, has won the Best Actor Male award at the prestigious ceremony. Ahmed was present during the film’s screening that took place in the morning on day two of the festival but he had left before the awards’ night, a source close to the actor told Instep.
“Truly honoured to have won Best Actor award at Washington DC South Asian Film Festival for Laal Kabootar,” Ahmed posted on his social media. It is indeed a moment of pride for Pakistan; the film is also Pakistan’s official selection for the Oscars 2020.
Moving on, Baaji that stars Meera Jee, Ali Kazmi, Amna Ilyas, Osman Khalid Butt and others also screened at the festival with director Saqib Malik in attendance. “Ahmed and I are all smiles as Baaji and Laal Kabootar are both being screened today at DCSAFF 2019,” he posted along with a picture featuring them both.
