The new expansive building of Maharani’s Commerce and Management College and the attached hostel will be inaugurated at Paduvarahalli here on Wednesday.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the building and hostel at 10.30 a.m., said Vasu, MLA for Chamaraja.

Addressing reporters on Monday, he said the CM had allocated ₹150 crore in the 2014 budget and sanctioned four acres of land to construct the college building and one acre for the hostel at the locality off Hunsur Road.

While thanking the CM for laying emphasis on higher education for girls, the MLA said the allocation made for a college building was the highest among the 417 colleges functioning under the Department of Collegiate Education in the State.

Mr. Vasu also thanked Minister for Industries R.V. Deshpande, who then held the portfolio of Higher Education, for striving to get the congested college bifurcated and helping the college campus come up at Paduvarahalli. Mr. Deshpande had visited the college and held a meeting of the College Development Committee to bring out a master plan for the new campus.

He thanked Minister in-charge of Mysuru H.C. Mahadevappa, who holds the Public Works portfolio, for developing the new college and hostel campus whose buildings match the city’s heritage image.

Lack of basic facilities, shortage of classrooms, drinking water, toilets, and a library, for want of space had been plaguing Maharani’s College. Eight students used to share one hostel room and many started facing health issues because of poor facilities. The new campus is expected to put an end to those problems and facilitate the imparting of quality education.

The Chief Minister will also lay foundation stone for various other development works on the day. Minister for Higher Education Basavaraj Rayaraddi is also expected to take part in the inaugural function.
