Kantharvan

What it is about…

South Indian Productions' Kantharvan is directed by Salangai Durai, who has also written the story, screenplay and dialogue. The music composer is Alex Paul and the cinematographer, Anil Sekar. Edited by SMV Subbu and art directed by M. A. Ramadurai, the film is a love story with a difference.

Music highlights

The film uses percussion with a unique and melodic touch in its five songs. ‘Muthumaniye' is a wedding melody beautifully written by Kavin Sampath and brought to life by Sheela Mani, Renjani Jose and Lizy Francis. ‘Lakka Langatika' is a racy number written by Muthu Vijayan, and Shankar Mahadevan does ample justice to it. Singer Srinivasan lends his inimitable style to ‘Kadal Kadal', written by Valee. Karthik's rendition of ‘Nerupai', written by Muthu Vijayan, is lively, while ‘Kadal Oru Pattam Poochi' is a folksy number sung by Anitha and written by Viveka.

What they say…

Director Salangai Durai:Kantharvan is an emotional love story with Kathir and Honey Rose in the lead, and Ganja Karuppu has a comic role. The hero is a water tank lorry driver and the climax, shot in Chennai, is probably the first of its kind in Tamil films.

Hero Kathir: I did a scene as lorry driver in director Salangai Durai's earlier film Kathavarayan . The way I drove the truck made him promise to cast me in his next film. Before selecting me, he first asked me to drive a lorry from Kathipara junction along Mount Road!

Music director Alex Paul: I have had a passion for music from childhood. My father was a great music teacher and the man who introduced Ganamela or the stage performance of film songs. He moulded me from music lover to composer. My first movie was Chathikkatha Chandu . I have done 50 films since, and received 12 awards. Kantharvan is my first Tamil movie.
